hey guys, i know ford kept the travers stlye suspension for quite some time, while along the way adding better brakes, motors and what not. what chassi would be ideal to through under an early 30s coupe? i remember a while back calling a model A body and a 40 ford chassi a hotrod kit but always kinda wondered what would work and what wouldnt are these frames narrow enufff or no??? just wonderin tim
A Model A body is too narrow to channel over a stock width '32 frame. they sit on top of them. Ts all the same As all the same '32 all alone with the "swoosh" on the side that the front fender follows frame shows between body and running board. '33-'34 the same but different from '32. wider. '35-40 mostly the same dimensions, much wider, front axle closer to firewall. 41-'48 mostly the same as '35-'40 dimensionally but some differences. Truck frame different starting in '42, parallel leaf springs. wheelbases and track widths changed. Stick to a '32 or Model A frae under a Model A. Or a Chevy or Essex if you run across one. Whatever it is it needs to be around 103"-104" Wheelbase and fit the cowl width of your body with the body properly located over the rear axle. (Hood length? Hotrods don't need no stinking hoods!)
Yep! 32' highyboy or channeled A would be my picks. You can still take advantage of the Ford "progression". With out too much trouble, you can run a 40 spring on either. I think it rides alot better than an A. Im kind of biased, spent the majority of my childhood in the rumble seat of a 31'. 40 front brakes will bolt right onto either. Mixin and matchin the stuff is the fun. I bought a 40' Ford as a donor when I started on my car, saved me alot of time and money in the end. Crease Barons So Tex
