It's actually between Gardner and Wellsville, and there is a LOT of old truck stuff there. Only thing I ever got from them was a 6-71 blower a long time ago, at that time they were nice enough to deal with. If they'd have crushed it out this summer when prices were high they'd have made MILLION$.... Can you provide dimensions on that behemoth? What size wheels? The proportions look spot on and your craftsmanship is fantastic.
Nice truck. Continental, as in the airplane engine manufacturer? I ***ume the wheels are newer. Thanks, Kurt
Continental is the same manufacture that made aircraft engines. The wheels are newer, but Alcoa came out with the same wheel (with 5 holes instead of 10) in the early to mid 50's.
also built 2 1/2 hp 4 cycle lawn mower and go kart engines, my cart i had in 1957 was powered by a continental
O.K....here's what I gots goin' on.... the ch***is is from an '84 Chevy 1-ton dually, crew-cab, 4-door, six-pack. with a very strong running 454, and she did HUGE smokin burnouts...and that was with the heavy steel cab, hood & fenders, and bed on it. I knocked off all that heavy sheet metal, and slammed a 1953/72/351 Peterbilt cab channeled 10" down on it. I chopped the roof 5", and I kin stand next to it and look right across the roof....that's how low this is. I was gonna shorten the frame 30" and make a day cab outta it, but my friend who was going to help me with the frame said "why don't you drop a 36" sleeper on it?? you can use it for a back seat, throw your dirty socks in it, and then you won't have to shorten the frame this way....PLUS...it'll look cooler than hell!!!" so dat's just what I did. I wasn't planning on running fenders or a hood, but they just seem to be falling into place. I narrowed the grill shell by 18" or so, so I have the ultra 'needle-nose' look too. The pick-up truck was owned by an older guy who pulled a 5th wheel camper with it, so it had the aftermarket gauges in it, plus the whole towing package...so that's all going right back in again...and the bed is a stepside from a '50 Chev pick-up. Remember, too, that other than the bed, this is all built out of aluminum...so it'll be lighter than heck!...(good for smokin the tyres!!! so, some of you will like it, and some will call this an abortion.....I really don't care. it's been a blast to build, I've gotten alot of attention over it, and it won't even be on roadtill this springtyme. I'm a custom builder and painter by trade, plus I've got years of over-the-road trucking experience...so this ain't gonna be some piece-a-ch*t, slapped together build. Everything is plated for strength, and it's gonna be a ball to drive. oh...and I've got 6" straight stacks on her, and I'm gonna plumb a LP tank from the bed to the stacks (to blow flames outta them!!!!)........................enjoy!
I think it's a great way to solve the "dirty socks", and "no we can't take that stuff it won't fit" issues in some smaller hot-rods! Pretty neat!
