Art & Inspiration Old Sh*t

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ryan, Sep 16, 2009.

  1. Ok, last set...

#023 - a box of stuff that was literally saved from a scrap metal dumpster when my (dumb ass) brother in law bought an old house and garage and proceeded to throw EVERYTHING away because he "doesn't like old stuff". By the way - the thing on the left... If you crank the handle, the tip of the tool turns a half turn, then reverses for a half turn, and then reverses again... What IS it???

#037 - Old timer clock - I'm guessing for school bells? The old fire extinguisher is split from water freezing in it. I PLAN to have that repaired for the old "store & garage" that I mentioned above.

#038 - ANCO wiper box that is severely rusted on the right side, but I could always mount that side against the wall, eh?

#039 - Parking meter saved from another huge pile of scrap metal. Some Krylon hammertone paint and some elbow grease work wonders! I need an electric wall clock motor for the old 7UP bar clock though!

#040 - My dad found this OLD toy truck in someone's trash when he was driving a garbage truck for a living back in the early 70's. Someone told me that it was circa 1926. Any other information on it would be appreciated!!!

#042 - Remember WACKY PACKAGES? This is an uncut sheet from the printers. 2 complete sets!

#049 - This is the old house that is going to be "restored" into an old auto repair and general store. My plan is to set up a "diorama" in the garage with a LOT of the stuff that I have in the other photos, and to make it look like the mechanic went to lunch in 1966 and never came back. The old headlight tester, the PEPSI machine, the crates, oil cans, wrenches, etc. will all be "on display" as if it were a real working shop.

Hope that the HAMB doesn't mind a photo of a house in here, but it WILL be VERY car-friendly soon!!!

Shoot I don't have room to fart in around here yet I still like old stuff. Collect anything that isn't nailed or painted down. Got this thing for cool looking stuff. Doesn't have to be worth much just cool. Got some old toys and old Tobacco stuff that belonged to my Grandpa he died in '61. Even got some old tobacco. Love old license plates, car emblems, old adds, signs and old trucks. When you got old junk you got to have an old truck to haul it around in.... to and from.....

  4. Whew... good thing that nobody noticed the "mirrored ball" in #037!!!! :D I don't think that disco balls fit into the "traditional" scene!!!

I agree with "Rusty76" though... I like cool looking old stuff, and I personally don't really give a damn what it might be "worth". I really enjoy things that look like they "could tell a story" though!

Anyone know what the tool is in #023? I'm thinking that it'd be used for lapping valves since it rotates back and forth (about 180*) while you crank the handle in one direction. If you know old tools, I'll post some more on here of some other stuff that I've acquired (in a seperate thread).

  5. I've got this old monster of a floor jack. (about 4' long)
Too big for most applications but it'll lift a dump truck.

There's so many antique stores and collectors now that sometimes it's hard to collect anything without somebody driving the price through the darn roof. It isn't like I'm rich I just like old stuff, but heck when you can't afford a bicycle it kinda stinks. Buddy of mine found an old Schwinn a few years ago in a dumpster. Brought it home cleaned it up and rides it everyday for exercise. If you can enjoy your old junk and not look at it as just something to look at that's when it becomes fun. I rember playing with my uncles old toys that were old when he was kid. Probably had enough lead on them to make fishing weights. I always huntin around for something cool. Thinking about looking for something cool found an old spotlight liked used on an old car down in my mothers basement didn't even know it was there. Cool.

This was my grandpa's adding machine that he used in his garage back in the 50's. Somewhere I used to have a few books of service tickets with the garage name on them, but I can't locate them right now. I think my uncle has a lot more of his stuff from the garage including a really old tool cabinet and some vintage snap-on tools.
