texas..........hope I'm not breaking any unwritten rules about posting so many responses to one thread,if I am someone chime in please-thanks
Austin,Texas 07....sorry guys, feel like I'm hogging up this thread, sounds stupid but I really get fired up looking at and photographing old signs/americana.I'll back off for now,if anyone wants to see more let me know,[theres lots more where these came from]I'll post later-thanks
Don't think you're breaking any unwritten rules here. The signs are beautiful and I'm glad to see a newbie have the smarts to just post thumbnails instead of 1600x1200 pics when he's posting this many of them, especially when a few of us are still on dial-up! There's a few of us here that were thinking that we suffered from some kind of sickness that made us collect and photograph old signs, but you're helping us all feel a little better about ourselves, as well as a bit envious. I'm to the point where I've experimented a bit with making my own "new" old signs. If you get tired of posting them here, you might consider putting up an album of shots on Flick'r or Photobucket or some other photo sharing site and putting a link to it here instead. And thanx for sharing your collection! By the way, who's that in your avatar?
From an antique store up on a hill in Clarksville TN maybe??? Saw it(or it's TWIN) about 10-12 yrs ago....$300 and I passed Great pics--thanks for sharing
Thats old E.T. or Ernest Tubb,a famous country music personality from the 40's and 50's.He would finish all his live performances by flipping his guitar backwards and saying "thanks"
I dont think its the same sign, the one I had came out of Oklahoma last year,300 bucks was a steal even 10yrs ago,I think I got 1200 for mine about a 8-10 months ago...must have been the its TWIN-thanks
Here's the only one I have at the moment: I've passed this one thousands of times and finally stopped and took a quick picture of it,i figure it's only a matter of time before it's painted over. And this might ruffle a few feathers: Probably built back when it was cool to put cars up on sign poles..
JJ- Dude...all them pitchers you been uploadin' done broke the internet! You in a heap o' trouble now son! I'll bet a live Ernest Tubb show was an event to remember. I know the name and a little bit of his music but I guess I haven't seen enough pictures of him to recognize him. But that shot you've got of him there looks a bit like some shots I've seen of Junior Brown, which isn't too surprising since E.T. is one of Jr's influences.
