Thanks Vintage Roadside (and others) for keeping this thread going. Maybe with the weather improving and more folks out cruising this will inspire some of us to get the cameras out and record some more of these fading gems. And post the results here, of course!
I've been meaning to photograph this motel located in Ventura, CA since hearing about is ultimate demise of being torn down. Shot these today 11Apr10. The Bowling alley is still open but the restaurant and motel are fenced off and falling into disrepair.
I usually shoot neon signs but this plexiglass one at the XXX Drive In is still pretty amazing. Last night...
Man...that 'entrance' sign is cooler than sh*t! I'd be down there seein' if I could take it offa their hands if I waz nearby.
scored this at a local swap meet a while back. It's from a cafe that was in Terminal Island in the 20's/30's. I even got the original menu with it.
it would be real nice if when we post a new sign that if we know where its located... to list the city/state etc here is a few more Seattle WA mission Blvd San Leandro CA San Francisco CA Riverside CA Placerville CA N Florida Av Lakeland FL place called Vito's..my pops used to eat there in the 50's when he was in college.
In the southeast, See Rock City signs painted on tops or sides of barns were spotted all across the rural landscape. However, only a few remain. Rock City is an old attraction located near Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Here are a few oldies but goodies from the NH Seacoast some of you may recognize. The Yokens Sign is no longer in use and the city is trying to determine what they should do with the iconic whale. My vote, it needs to find it's way to my garage!! I've always had a thing for neon!
