That`s what I was thinking...carry another 3rd member and change at the track...I`ve got 4:11s in my `40 ford....but would like to try 4:30s or 4:56s just to see what that would do to my timesand MPH in the quarter...I`d also like to try 3:50s or 3:73 to see what it does with mileage.
Troy, I know Dallas changes third members in the Hellraiser. Has nine inch under his coupe and he says it takes less than hour. would be fun to try. Also, in Troys case, his engine could turn the RPM and can use the extra gear. I know that alot of people put gearsbehind a stock engine and can bearly make it to end of a quarter
I'm running a 331 chevy in my 52 henry j gasser. The block is a '68 and has '66 double humps on it. This exact motor wasn't made before 65, but something they would have been running then. I've got a weiand crossram on it with discontinued 390 cfm holley double pumper race carbs on it. Best run so far was a 12.87 but I have yet to get a good run out of it since a tranny rebuild and a gear change to the 4.11. Shortly after the hunnert car heads up I hydrauliced #8 cylinder and bent the shit out of the rod. So I'm going to rebuild it again this winter with forged rods and a nastier solid Isky Cam. Current trans is a TH400 with a 3000 stall, BUT I have a mint B&M Hydro Stick under the bench that will go in it once I find a starter and a flex plate. It has the chevy adapter and everything.
Thank you for posting ( with pics ). It is bitchin to see early iron runnin good. I really want to hear about something other that a sbc. How about an early olds or caddy.
