First tow bars and then open trailers followed by ramp trucks and then onto enclosed trailers and now to see some of the rigs 56' feet in length just shows how far drag racing as come over time.

I think I can also see why the costs have increased so much.

The thing that has really changed the most over the years is not the length of the drag strip but the size of the pit area needed to park all the new rigs in.

    Just my opinion. Jimbo

Agreed Jimbo. I like seeing the cars on the open trailers. I understand protecting your investment and all at hotels etc. but I still like the old open air trailers.

I would guess that would hinge on 2 things: 1. If you live in or drive thru Ohio - then YES our roads are complete***** here - springs are your friend. 2. What's the construction of the car to be towed - a lightweight flexible chassis dragster is gonna get a lot of unnecessary wear and tear if you go without springs. YMMV

I've contemplated making a removable top for my dragster trailer - a best of both worlds approach. Now if I could only settle on a design and find some time - ha ha ha.

Some old trailers are still seeing service. On the way to Bonneville a couple of weeks ago.

Omega's first post with the pictures includes the car I've owned for the last 25 years, the '68 Mustang coupe 428CJ. Omega, I wonder where you got it, as I've never seen it before. The photo is credited to Bob Wenzelburger, who I think is still actively photographing. Anyone know how to contact him, as I'd like to find out if he has any other pictures of the car. Anybody else remember the car? It was raced by Rhett White Ford in Walnut Creek, and driven by Wayne Torkelson.

image.jpg image.jpg We bought this one in the mid 90s and had it re-skinned. You could see where the original framework had been lengthened and made taller. It was "supposedly" an old Jerry Ruth trailer but we never looked into it.

image.jpg We still have this one and use it to haul stuff, not cars though. I'm not sure how old it is. The picture is about 20 years old. Steel deck, stub axles with no springs.

  18. I know it's not strictly a trailer but this previously shown old square box truck with the equally square cabover cab has such a great look to it.

Willie and Dave bought this trailer from the Mafia bros. and after one incident with ill handling Willie added another axle and they used it till they stopped racing.

I see plenty of over the road tractor trailer rigs with "soft sides" that could be used for the kind of trailer you're talking about.
