Rusting Packard in a junkyard on Martha's Vineyard, Mass. in the 1960's. Looks like a 633. One more coming...

Another shot in the same place, Martha's Vineyard. Another Packard, but hard to nail down as to model.

Someone tried to PM me about the exact location of these "creek-bank cars," and I or my computer messed up and lost their message link. So, for their benefit, I must say that I myself have always wondered just where this is. Whoever posted the pic on the net in the first place didn't seem to have a clear idea of location; I imagine they just stumbled onto the spot and clicked the photo.

But I've been to Cherokee three times over the years and -- being in the Smoky Mountain touring region -- the whole area I've witnessed is as close to pristine as you can find in modern times. I could only conclude that the land-retention project shown in the photo must not be actually THAT close to the well-kept town of Cherokee. Probably some miles away and not in the national park. Sorry, but I never had any more precise info, folks!

Here are a few shots from a nice photo study of the South Dakota ghost town of Ardmore, by pro protog Mary Kim, proprietor of Dogdotsphotography. To see Mary's full photo study, or to buy high-quality photos for framing, etc., you can email Mary at www.dogdotsphotography.com

These are from a yard in Alberta Canada. I like the tow trucks and equipment that was used in these yards. walking around yards like this and seeing this stuf sitting and resting is as relaxing for me as golfing is to a lot of people. Some days I just wonder around and sit in random cars.:)

maybe if the addresses of these finds were posted more of them could be saved from the crusher,it's very sad to see something that you would buy if possible and not hav any idea where it really is

jjkjrii, I know what you mean. And as you can see in Post # 638, when I HAVE the locations, phones, etc., I give them. Beyond that, you can PM any HAMB member who posts a car pic on this thread and ASK them for directions. Some folks will give that info, and some want to keep their finds to themselves. Their business.

You also have RoadKillCustoms, an alliance member. They have compiled a nationwide junkyard list, and I believe they made it searchable by the end of '09. They are not hard to find, bro.

Not a junkyard shot in the regular sense, this pic is of scrapped cars
in 1930 waiting to be salvaged for materials to make new Fords. It was
taken at Ford's Rouge River Plant near Detroit and is in the photo archives
of the New York Times. This photo can be ordered in "exhibition quality" and sizes
(meaning suitable for framing) from the New York Times Store site
( nycshopkolinsky.info/auto-salvage-1930). Such prints are minus
    the NYT watermark shown here.

As anyone knows who's checked this thread occasionally, I hunt for pix of junked oldies WHEREEVER they still exist. At present, we have on this thread VT from every U.S. state but Hawaii, from most Canadian provinces, Mexico, Scandanavia, France, Italy, Australia and more. But HERE is something very unusual: VT actually in a Russian junkyard! These are from a kinda quirky 'net post is dated 2006, and you can see more by dialing it up at www.englishrussia.com/?p=311

Hey there, Russian. THANK you! I thought the WHOLE presentation was quite clever. But being from Ohio, I couldn't read the car names, etc. THANKS again for speaking out (especially for clarifying that it is NOT a JUNKYARD!!!

As a matter of fact, I found some pictures of a very rare Russian ZIS down in a China building. But that is not a junk yard, either, brother. Thanks again, and I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone. The shoot that was done, obviously, in a light fashion and vein, and I just went with that tone, ya know? Peace, friend. Please send more car pix, if you have anything that does fit this thread theme.

This shot of "Ol' Mister Campbell's Car" was taken in the American Southwest by fine-art photog Arla M. Ruggles, a member of the massive RedBubble artists group on the 'net. They welcome new members, and their site (many different subjects) is a feast for the eyes. Go take a look!

Sorry Jimi, but your facts are a bit off. These photos are mine, and my handle is the same here, as it is on Jalopnik. I sent the photos to Murilee for his "Down on the Junkyard" series. Here's the Photobucket link
    http://s47.photobucket.com/albums/f153/57Sweptside/Kingman/?start=all

There's definitely some choice stuff out here, and it is ALL for sale (although the caretaker seems to think most of this stuff is made of gold!).

57SweptSide, man, I'm sorry about my goof. I do TRY to make sure photographers get credit for capturing images and provide any available link info so that viewers can go and see more details at the actual sites pix are excerpted from. I feel bad when I mess up in that mission, SO I appreciate you setting the record straight! A BIG THANKS, 57SweptSide !!!

MagnumCharger, man! Good to see you here. I go away
on 2 weeks' vacation, and while I'm gone, you post this
WONDERFUL yard in Canada that is a virtual carbon copy
of the places I used to haunt here in Oho until they started
disappearing entirely after the '70s oil embargo (long time
ago, now!). It is tremendous to know that good VT is still
being maintained in central and southwestern Canada and,
to some extent, in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River!

Folks, please take note! Aldon's Wrecking appears to be
THE major bone yard in Manitoba, being northeast of
    Edmonton! THANKS, MagnumCharger!

Hey there, BiltFordTuff! Welcome to a fellow KY native on this thread! As for this poor old Buick (???), OUCH!!! Was this a roll-over? Looks worse than if it had gone through the Demo Derby! Enjoyed the pix. I do hope you can find the older stuff, as we HAMBers need to stick as much as possible to '65 and erlier, ya know?

Yo, SunRoofCord! Jimmy, enjoyed the pic of the Zephyr, abandoned
and awaiting salvation (hey, HAMBers!?!?!). I love the Zephyrs; one
    of Edsel Ford's BEST ideas!

As for these two MOPARS, I dream of these artful shots, and I thank
you for locating it, Jim. In its starkness, it combines loneliness, auto-
motive form and hope -- all in one frame. GREAT shot, Jim. Bring
shots like this one, ANY time you find them! THANKS again!!!

In re-checking, I jumped to the conclusion the dark-green car at left in Post #585 is a Nash, and I went on. On review, though, I got to wondering if this wasn't one of the LAST Nash LaFayetts??? Any HAMB LaFayette specialists here?

Welcome back from Vacation Jimi. According to Wikipedia; The LaFayette name was reintroduced in 1934 as a lower priced companion to Nash. LaFayette ceased to be an independent marque with the introduction of the 1937 models. From 1937 through 1940, the Nash LaFayette was the lowest priced Nash, and was replaced by the new unibody Nash 600 for the 1941 model year. So, the car in the picture, being a '39 or '40, it would of been one of the last Nash Lafeyettes.

Hot-darn, Jim! I throw the question out to the WHOLE HAMB, and I should have just asked my "next-door neighbor" first! LOL
Upon reflection, I do wish parent companies had followed the examples of Hudson (with its Essex hold-over) and Nash (with the revived LaFayette) in the cases of DeSoto (as the bottom-line Chrysler when it could no longer stand as a SEPARATE MAKE). Likewise, I feel Caddy should have demoted the VERY popular LaSalle (permanently) as the baseline Caddy offering.
Maybe this isn't the thread to argue this point on (?), but I'll keep it brief. These MAKE names had marketability, so I simply disagree with company policies that had them simply disappear.
