Merry Christmas, fellow HAMBers! Last year, it was a "Best of Old-time
Junkyards" thing. Recession's still on, Christmas may be slim for many,
so all some folks have is each other ... and HOPE. Let's just show
junked & abandoned cars in SNOW to help celebrate both Christmas
AND the vehicles we HAMBers love! Here's Day-5, from various sources.
I've tried to give credit where due! Next FOUR, Old Car City, near White, GA

    Merry Christmas, one and all!

Photo by Andy Milford Photography, Rhinebeck, NY. Andy
shot this scene at Old Car City. It is obvious he is a talented,
hard-working and resourceful photographer, as he traveled
hundred of miles to select his subject, his timing and some
related techniques to maximize the effects of a fading gem!
    If you like this fine shot, please search Andy up on the net;
I am sure he'd be happy to sell you a framable print. Not
a commercial, but I borrowed the photo, so, I just want to
    return something to him.

OneMintCaddy, COOL winter car pic, in more ways than one.
I'd give it an Honorable Mention, even though this '56 (?)
    isn't actually a junker, nor in a junkyard. I reckon that's
about 2 FEET of snow there!!!! YOW! Gotta be Minnesota.

Just 2 days to go, folks. Please see the December posts
on this thread and VOTE for your FAVORITE winter junkyard
photo of 2010. OR, YOU CAN ALSO POST YOUR OWN
FAVORITE WINTER JUNKER SHOT! I'll tally any votes on
New Year's Day and post the top vote-getter, runners-up
    and honorable mentions!

I still can't believe that there are other people, like me, who can spend all day looking at old junkyard photos.

Thanks, Lunatic! Here is a duke's mix of stuff that drew my
attention, so I thought maybe it has a place here. It's real-world,
old pix. They can be a bit depressing sometimes, though!!!

Thanks, Lunatic. That '55 Chrysler breaks my heart. BUT, take the front clip off and use a combo of jacks and heat, that car could have been back on the road! (May well have BEEN, I hope!) -- Jimi

PS: I don't know if that's a New Yorker OR if it was a Windsor with the Poly in it.. Any help HAMBers. It's just hard to see the fender script in this pic.

Sure wish I could find a old junk yard here in Southern Louisiana... The weather down here eats up all metal mostly what you find is a rust heap

  21. Wow, imagine my surprise when Im half way through this neat thread and all my photos that I took years ago of Les Joyces wrecking yard at Warnertown came up?

I took these photos a week before Les closed the place down (about 1995?).

I heard a rumour that it was to close down so I thought I better take the camera up there and catch it all on film before it becomes just another Barley paddock. In fact, I have all the old paper photos of these shots on my desk as I speak, I can see them - freaky stuff.

jimi'shemi291 - To answer your questions that you asked way back in 2009 about the look of the photos, time of day etc., I used a Tobacco colour filter to make the whole scene look gloomy because it was a gloomy situation knowing that all these cars were facing the crusher in the next week or so.
Me, my brother Spoggie (fellow H.A.M.B.er) and a few mates went to the yard regularly on Saturdays. It's an easy 2 hours north of Adelaide. We used to buy nice stainless mouldings, instraments, panels, accessories etc and my mate Squasher can bee seen in one of the shots taking stainless mouldings off of an old '56 Customline.

There were hundreds of Peacocks roaming wild throughout the cars and Pepper trees around the yard and they would scare the shit out of you when you would stick your head in one of the cars and they would want to make a quick exit out of the same window that you were stickin your head in to!

The yard was in two sections, 1 section of old cars (1920 - 1940's) and 1 of cars (1950's 1970's) and about 1000 -1500 cars in total I guess. Later that day and we had our haul of parts, we payed old Les and he said he was going to the Warnertown Hotel for a beer and he asked us to join him. We did and when he picked up the newspaper to read it, there on page 3 was an almost full page story about Les and his story about running the yard for over 50 years and his looming retirement! He was so proud.I think he signed a copy for us!
They were the days, end of an era in these parts. There is another yard close by that is still operating and I will post some photos of it if your interested.
I'm glad some one posted these historic shots of what should have been proclaimed as a National Park, because if they did not I would have........Still dont know how they got the shots in the first place, not that I mind! Cheers & Happy tin hunting.

Here's one, though not a "junkyard" pic, per se. What
a shot. Just fun to stare at. Sure gets the blood pumpin'
and the imagination going! HAMB Alliance member Spuds
of Idaho posted this on the "Vintage Shots From Days Gone

This eye-popping classic junkyard shot is stated as being shot about 1950.
That seems fairly reasonable, since many of the older cars that had been
kept up through WWII would have been being replaced with new, post-war
cars. Still, something tells me this could have been shot as early as the mid-
1930s. What's everybody think out there in HAMBland? Pro prints of this are
available on eBay by a highly rated seller, "SuperiorView" of Marquette, MI.
SuperiorView states that they have the original photo print, and SEPIA-TONE
copies are made brand new from a sharp copy neg (meaning NOT a machine
digital knock-off). 8 X 10" only, the size of the original. Not doing a com-
mercial here, folks. But since I borrowed the image to show here, it seems
right to lend SuperiorView a hand in return. Kind of looks like anyplace in
the U.S. Midwest; anybody else have a thought?

And jumping into the Time Machine, here's an early-'60s MACK in a junkyard
in Belgium! AutoLit also sells on eBay, so if you're into MACK literature or photos,
    you can find them there.
