Whooee! Those pine tree needles are surely HARD on sheet metal, aren't they! I guess that's a universal issue, whether you're in Belgium or Kentucky, eh?

Georgian thePolecat shot this Graham sharknose rusting
away in Louisiana, "a heck of a hike off any path." Can't
post the bigger pix; they're HUGE! This caught my atten-
tion because of the true story and remote location, explain-
ing how a darn rare car could still exist out there in this
    kind of resto/roddable shape! WOW!

I never get tired of checking out the site of Lewis World of Parts (aka Old Car City),
White, Georgia. The myriad vehicles there fire the imagination!

Somewhere in there in the embrace of Mother Nature is a '62 Merc Monterey!
I wonder if it's got a 390 like the one our family had when I was a sub-teen.

'54 Nash, but that's about it, folks! Still, a cool photo -- SO typical of scenes
you find in a good, OLD boneyard!!! Old Car City USA, White, Georgia.

Another scarce one! '64 Merc Marauder. Check out the nice grille,

Jimmie! I posted some shots of my 'back yard' some months ago and I've found another one - circa 1961. If you look in the back ground you can see the new Holiday Inn that bought out the yard next to us and did not appreciate us burning 12-15 vehicles in a pile to prepare to take them to the crusher in town. ... go figure

Michel, again, NICE pix! Hard to believe a lot of this territory was a battleground in World War I. Maybe some people would think the old cars STILL make it look like a battlefield. Ha, ha. :)

I think you have the year of '52 right on this Mercury, but I cannot say what model it is. Maybe a Mercury nut on the HAMB can say, I hope.

Merc custom just sitting beside some railroad tracks in southern West Virginia.
Looks WAY savable, ya think???

Vintage44, SURE, I remember your humorous story about burning cars in a bonfire. But I wonder why the people at Holiday Inn would even build at that location anyway!?!?! Another thing that's really COOL is that you still had some coupes there in 1961! Awesome.

SunRoofCord: Jim, seems to be one of the most popular pix on this
thread there. People have posted it, now, about four times. I still have
a challenge out to folks to ID as many cars as possible. Walker Evans
took this pic, apparently from a railroad right-of-way, in late summer
1935 near Easton, PA, for the Farm Security Administration (later
renamed the Office of War Information). He, Dorthea Lang and several
others traveled all over the U.S. during the Great Depression photo-
recording the plight of poor and displaced Americans, battered by
the economy and the Dust Bowl. One of my fave junkyard pics, always
good to run it by again! Almost certainly, ALL these cars got scrapped
to help the war effort. BUT, Evans recorded an image for the ages!!!

Thanks, guys! I think you'd also enjoy RoyalShifter's great thread, "Sitting and Rotting ....... picture thread." It's not just V.T. sitting in junkyards. It's back yards, driveways, behind welding shops ... on and on. Cars that could be projects, if only cars/trucks could be hooked up with a loving "sponsor."

Hey, but if you like THIS thread, please go to the top of any page and vote us 5 stars in the rating box. Play with that feature a tad, and you'll see it's easy. THANKS again!

    Hello Jimi,
I think you would say WWII; It is the battleground of the "bataille des Adennes" in december 1944.

SkidSteer of Mountaintop, PA, just put out the word yesterday
that Engler's huge '40s-'60s junkyard in NE PA is going to crush
out :(. BUT THE NEWS ISN'T ALL BAD! It seems they plan
a three-year program, so things will, apparently, be weeded out
gradually. That way, HAMBers can hopefully get in there and
get what they need or can save:). I wouldn't wait too long
though, or what you need could already be gone!

Engler's is almost directly southwest of Wilkes-Barre, close to
Wapwallopen and very near I-81 (?). AT LEAST, we all have a
heads-up! How many times have you gone back to an old
yard and found bare ground! This situation beats that, right?
Here are two more pix posted from a late-'09 trip by our Power-
Shifter & Norville. More can be seen on the thread entitled,
"Black Friday '09 Junk Yard Day."

    Jimmie,
As far as the Holiday Inn building right next to us I guess whoever was in charge of researching the 'neighborhood' probably did not remain in that position for his full career! :D I'm not sure but about that same time the 'neighbor' on the other side of the HI was a pig farm that became a DOT site afterward. Believe me when the wind was right, that pig farm could make your nose hair fall out! Ahh ... the good old days ....

LOL. Dude, that has to be about THE funniest TRUE junkyard story on this thread. I don't know what gets (or used to) into some groups who see CHEAP land, then go harass the original adjoining land-owners! What -----ole would build a hotel smack between an auto salvage yard and a pig farm, I have to ask?
