  1. This car looks like it would just come back to life with a turn of the key.

Unfortunately, this junkyard is not; it was cleared two years ago under pressure from the green
    The name was Chatillon.

Scoot, I'm awfully sorry to hear that. Early junkyards are falling FREQUENTLY now here in the U.S. and Canada:(, mainly due to the demand for scrap steel.

But there is also ALWAYS the pressure from local zealots (GREEN or NOT) who just want to remake the world into -- what? -- Utopia? I hate to seem POLITICAL (which is normally a HAMB no-no:eek:), but these dumb-butts are occupying themselves with silly "causes" when their societies have more important "problems" and real-world issues.:p I do wish they'd leave they few little enclaves where the dwindling "vintage tin" still survives, alone!

Okay, I'll put the soapbox away!

Sorry, Dan. It was a sort of GENERIC shot illustrating an older HMN article. I ALSO love to know locations, but OFTEN, even the previous poster didn't know OR didn't include the info.

Most folks on THIS thread include location, year taken, make/model, and often the name of the yard, if a car is IN a junkyard. Technically not needed, BUT, I feel it adds to the enjoyment knowing at least a little background.

    Jimi,
yes, in Europe al the junkyards follow the same way of disappearance. In Belgium there is
no yard in nature to my knowledge.

"If only those old cars could talk."

They do...they speak volumes. They cetainly do.

At least in our minds/hearts. We know the stories, and that's what makes it so extremely poignant.

If you have respect for all those that've come before us...and it's obvious everybody here does...ya can't help but feel it.

It has so much to do with family...people's dreams...hard work...the collective dreams of this nation...so many levels.

I think we like to imagine the personal stories most. Just think...a sunny, summer, Sunday morning, 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Smith and little Johnny and Julie are on their way to church in their brand new Plymouth Savoy. Shiny paint...chrome...the unmistakable smell of a new car interior. And then a country ride after church, and ice-cream. Johnny farts and laughs, his sister hits him. Mrs. Smith..."Johnny..." Mr. Smith quietly chuckles to himself.

You got it, Bomb! I've enjoyed having Dan's artful material on this thread.

Honestly, it helps illustrate the points that RickyBopp made about the "SPELL" that junked cars cast upon an observer!

I don't know HOW many times I've stopped in some hot, weedy junkyard and just GAZED at a one-time glorious car/truck, at the very end "in repose," resting at last after all their years of service.

Shoot, I think you guys enjoy this thread as much as I do!

^ it takes more dedication then I'd have to bring those up from the dead, yikes.
I'd be iffy even 20 years ago, now?
I counted probably 20 pre 1960 trucks in this lot. Most were scattered but here is a line up of 4 nice ones.

There were some MINT ones too, and this odd one I've never seen before, may have even been a Fiat or something. It was hardcore strange, damn I wish I had more pics of that if nothing else.

Dan, I LIKE Barracudas, but '67 is past the HAMB cut-off. The moderators generally don't mind if there's a junkyard with a mix of older and newer, but I wouldn't call out even cool material like this after '65. Thanks, bro, and keep 'em coming, as you have time and inclination!:)

    Everybody have a great 4th Weekend!

Hey Dan, all those pics or at the most no older then last fall. Most very current, even then half those vehicles have been sitting for 30+ years, so no rush on getting out there.

If you see anything you like, take a copy of that pic URL and PM me with it, that'll tell me which yard its from, and I can give you directions to get to it. All of the them are Southern (eastern) Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan.

Graham - Thanks for that - I will. I am hoping to get up there sometime in the not too distant future. I have too other car photo friends who live up there and I have never been to the middle Canada yet. Sorry about the post 1965 cars.
