Old Timer Quiz...Do you remember?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flatheadhero, Aug 3, 2006.

  1. I guess the coolest thing from the present times is the term Asshat

The one that bothers me most is that there's no shame in being a whiner.

Another bitchen thing from the 21st century is the scroll wheel. If you are bothered by a nostalgia post on a traditional hot rod & custom board, pass it by. Maybe remembering how it really was helps some of us get our cars more traditionally correct. Making it forgivable during Tech Week, IMO.

An example, if I could find some Park's Texaco coupons to throw on my dash at Long Beach area car shows, I sure would.

Grumpy, uptight young people is another 21st century thing I don't care for. Remember what Thumper's mom told him in Bambi? Good advice today too.

    Actual mileage may vary

Damn, I need to file some of these away for my boys!

Remember the mosquito fogger truck coming thru the neighborhood during the summer, spraying a DDT fog everywhere? We used to ride our bikes behind it, wonder I'm not dead. (or am I?)

How about buying Model A's for $50.00 out of the barns and putting a primer paint job on them with a pump up fly sprayer.

Penicillin would cure anything you could get from foolin' around with some girl you shouldn't have. You had to "steal" condoms from your brother in law, 'cause they didn't sell ten different kinds at Safeway like now days. Not that I would really know about any of that stuff.

    How about silver money.
Beehives with lots of hair spray.
When ya cleaned spark plugs in a little sand blaster instead of replacing them.
Rebuilding generators and starter instead of replacing them.

Summer vacations to the west coast along Route 66 and visiting real indian shops, 10 cent cokes in a refundable bottle when you stopped to fill up, then when you filled up the kids got tickets for free ice cream cones at the Dairy Bee next door, and motels with a swimming pool, and yeah, as mentioned before, those Teepees.

I forgot most of this stuff.:D

Prince Albert, Bull durham, Bugler, We had a cigarette machine and my dad rolled his own on sunday after noon. My mother would would put them in a tupper ware box and put in the freezer. Doctor made house calls. 2 milk carton tops would get you in the walk in movies on sunday after noon. How about drip gasoline? oilfield thing. my dad would pick up a piece of copper 1" long and throw it in a barrel. At Christmas we would burn the plastic covers off and we would have enough money to buy gifts. Sunday evening I'd watch "Lassie and Flipper. Sunday morning it was "SkyKing"- he was bad to the bone. One episode he had to parachute out of the plane. Not good for a 7 year old to see. Later that day I jumped off the football stadium bleachers with a sheet for a parachute. One broken leg later I figured out, that was just Hollywood. That was before they told you not to try this at home. Hell yes I miss it. Does anyone remeber a character names "Stoney Burke"? He was a cowboy. TP

When I was in high school, I was in Interact, which was SUPPOSED to be like a junior Rotary. In reality, it was more like a junior Animal House. One of our initiation stunts was to send a recruit to the drug store (which, as you said, was the only place you could buy condoms then) to buy condoms with pennies. If he managed to pull it off, we didn't even let him keep them--we kept them for ourselves!

Jim, I think I like the sound of your old times as well as any. I slapped the cap off of a young fella a couple of years ago because he would not remove it during the "National Anthem". I did ask him first. I write "In God we Trust" on all my mail today. Thats for the 13% that it pisses off. Thanks you for reminding me. TP

classic, the joys of being in N.Z. you can be like 10 years younger and still remember these things as they were still current here :)
Our milk came with tin foil tops (at least in my day) recently you could still get it this was perhaps you still can.
I was in my 20's in the early 90's and owned 3 cars all of which shifted on the tree and had floor mounted dip switch and were all older then me..... hell the falcon from memory had more things to do with your feet then hands, dip, gas, brake, clutch, pedal for the w/sheild wiper washer (I think) and i'm sure there was something else......
