It was a great weekend at Latimore for the Old Timers to get some track time in and show their cars. I'd have loved to been around in the day when the track was full of these vintage racers. Went up and checked out the museum and it's a must see if your passing through. Here is a link to the website for the museum http://www.emmr.org/ How about some pics
Damn cool man!! That had to be a great get together for sure! I would have loved to see some vintage race car's out on that track instead of us hoodlums for once.. In fact, everything look's so nice and tidy in the pits....where's the PBR cans? Honestly, thanks for posting the pics, the're great.. That track is a piece of history.. Tony
Thanks for posting. Latimore is always a great time, but I had stuff I needed to get done this weekend. The number 9 is owned by the AACA museum. Was the Mariscano sprinter there?
Tony no Rockasilly PBR drinkin Douche Bags at this event...Well atleast Rockasilly PBR drinkers. Yeah it would be nice if Larry had the time to have these guys run at his show but he barely has enough time for people who enter the show to run. Maybe he should add a couple more days to his show! This one was sitting out front of the museum. Backing plates, wishbones and most of the running gear had lost most if it's chrome. Bet it was a nice looking ride in it's day and I'm loving it as it sits now.
Thats a good thing! There's a time and place for our nonsense..we're VERY lucky to have Latimore as that place.. Do they have this meet every year? Is it a day meet or more?
The Old Timers meet is a couple times a year and usually lasts for the weekend. They also have a metalshaping area that you could spend hours at. Check out there website for event dates
Hey Tony, track time for the old race cars happen for the Fair and Convention. In the past few months a lot of the old timers have been falling away and a couple of us are going to have to step up and pick up the slack. I really need some of the local guys interested in history to get with me to help keep this thing going. I kind of made a speech at the last board meeting that we really need to diversify the museum a good bit more to get the east coast drag racing community a lot more involved (read, help staff/run/finance) things around here. The website also sorely needs some work and regular updating. There is a lot going on at the museum, with any luck we'll get enough help to keep it going for years to come.
I've been going to latimore to watch these old cars, pretty much since i was born It does seem to be dropping off in attendance lately, but theres still alot of people who show up to support it i talked with the guy with the #11 car for quite a while, sat in it etc.... kinda put some bad thoughts in my head! (maybeeeee???) the car was built from Ray Kuns plans drawn in 1939 *midget nose, too small*
Well, not sure how much i'd be able to help out..maybe a donation from time to time..After being there, seeing the museum and the history that track has it would be a shame for it to fade away. It would be very cool for us to make a trip down sometime to see the old timer's run around the track and see the vintage racers.. Might be a suggestion for next year. I'll bump this back up for those who didn't see it. Tony
Great stuff, Fatabone. Thanks for posting. I grew up in East Tennessee watching tons of 35-40 Flathead Fords get thrashed to death on dirt tracks there. When you consider all the ones that got cut up or destroyed it's a minor miracle that we still have some left to play with.......Don.
NoboD, I was there on Saturday, without the car. The weather was perfect, with a slight wind to take the famous Latimore dust away. The car looks great, new steering gear from Shroeder, new radius rods and hiems the whole way around, and new hardware through out the whole car. The new small block sounds healthy, and it was beggin to be qualified. We started the car the week prior, and it sure made the neighbors jump. The joy of living in the borough. All that work and the wife decided "We" were going to do something else. Thats the last time that happens. Give me a call, I have some other "toys" in the shop you may be interested in. Joe Marsicano
Tony, You guys do plenty by driving down from upstate NY for the Showdown. You'll be happy to know your admission money from this year is going to help finance REAL restrooms at the track! There is a slight chance they may be working by next years show, if not later in the year. Anybody interested in becoming a member can join here http://emmr.org/join.htm for $20 a year. Thanks for the interest.
Larry, what do they need to make the restrooms happen$? Maybe a donation of a little HAMB? We can't do much as far as T-ship permits and such, but maybe help out with some coin?
That #6 Milt Marion car is a few towns away from me, really nice looking car. Three time INDY 500 winner Mauri Rose drove it.
Very cool Larry.. REAL shitter's eh? now THATS progress! I think i'll become a member myself..I think it'll be cool to support the track. back up for those who didn't see this Tony
Thanks to EVERYONE that attends the Jalopy Showdown. As Larry stated, your admission is generously donated by Larry & Kim to support the Museum and the Seven Valleys, PA Fire Company. Not only is a cool weekend but it is helping to keep this treasure alive & growing. Oh yea............GO ZACH, GO!!!!
bad thoughts eh? did you form that cowl bit or did it come from some were? did the have a copy of rays drawing floating around, i'd like to see that.
