here is "alice" in all her glory. 1948 dodge truck, looked like this since l started on her in 1994. Later
Just because i'm 23 doesnt mean i dont get the point. i get the point. I understand celebrating the old, the survivors, etc. But a lot of people on here won't admit that they will leave a car to rot for the sake of a fad because "they can't afford to paint the car." We spent a couple grand on our paint products and did the paint on our own...and we'd never painted before. rust and rot is not patina. I'm all for the ones with 45 yr old paint, cracks, and "whethered paint". im not all for the rust and rot. its just a prime example of not caring for the vehicle. There are plenty of these so called "survivors" sitting out in fields all over the place that have survived the test of time. the shells wont be surviving the test of time much longer for the sake of someone wanting to keep them looking the way they are...and im not talking about the ones with old cracked and whethered paint.
Little Terry's truck is spot on. i love that. that type of "patina" is what i think this thread should be about. thats what i thought this thread should be about....not the picture after picture of the rotted carcass that was resurrected from the neighbors field. I'm all about the old whether paint...but since when does rust become part of that category? just pointing it out.
Some of us feel the same way about four doors - I certainly do. But do I go on the 'show me your more door' thread and complain? No, I just give it a pass. Maybe you could try it next time you see something here you don't like, especially when the OP's specifically asks for no negativity. Like my friend Rick says, that's why there are 64 colors in the BIG box of crayons - everybody likes something different. Back on topic, a couple of the legendary Gray Baskervilles old For:
Whats left of my 51 year old orig baby blue paint. Some people prefer to spend money elsewhere on their rides. I have rarely owned a old vehicle that had nice paint and I grew up in a paint & body shop. I prefer to go fast!!! I remember my father had a 41 Dodge wrecker in the 70's called The Bushwacker it had the original paint on it, looked like hell, but had tons of character. He liked it that way, after painting and polishing cars all day thats the last thing he wanted to do on his own vehicles. I look at high dollar paintjobs and think they are nice. I just don't have the time to keep the finish up on a car like that. I'll be out Bangin Gears in my Falcon with a smile on my face.
gator posted a pic of my elky, but its funny, not a day goes by that some one says"when ya gonna paint it" or fix it up.and mine ain't no barn find,it never see's the inside of my garage. it's more like a "behind the garage find" and you know the older i get the more i belive in lifes short ,ya gotts to enjoy it.my old car is a lot of fun,it makes me smile, feel better, and forget my troubles.just like it is.CARRY ON
I know it says no rust buckets but I thought I would add mine. Was last on the road in the mid 50's I think. the original 60 blew and the guy tried to put an 85 in and never finished the job. I don't know the story on the olds hood trim though....
. The 49 gets a lot of waves and smiles in spite of the fact that she wears a faded dress. lots of people like it as is and others ask what color I want to paint it. I tell them it already has the color I want. the Original color. .
This is how I found it, and I think that's how it's going to stay. Being able to get it on the road a lot quicker is one motivation, but I also am of the belief that it's only original once. I have a lot of respect for spotless paint, and appreciate the effort it takes to get it, but I don't want a car that I'm afraid to drive or get dirty. Maybe someday it will get paint, but not for now.
