You know I catch alot of flack from people over the fact that several of my cars have orignal paint or very old paint. Good thing I don't care what they think and drive what I like! 1930 Sport Coupe- '50s hot rod that was painted red in '54 and then sat outside since '58. 1955 Granny Chevy-orignal paint and worn after 50 years of rain/snow and wind and sun. Try that with a Honda or Toyota and you will have a pile of plastic and dust.
I was told about a guy with a rusty roadster looking at ratty, that pulls into shows, parks the car, puts a sign out front of the car and dispears til the awards etc. A few friends checked out the car and realized that the car was fiberglass making it a complete fake as far as rustic rods go. Now that I don't see why someone would built a new car and paint it to look rusty. That's about as bad as those guys that do bodywork to that rustic rods and spray it with horse piss to bring the rust back. Sorry to offend those that have done this, LOL. Just don't get it.
I don't understand why some people buy a dog and chain it outside....and pay no attention to it. But cars....that's a different story. I understand it all......it's a love for things with wheels, with a different end result...simple, huh?
Ohhh...the comments I could come up with if I did'nt think Ed would kick my ass. Sorry, could'nt help myself.
My truck complete with vintage weathered flames. The Arizona sun continualy eats away at the blue paint exposing the red primer.
Cris..... never there! Easyrider....thanks. I love this car... I let my Dad borrow it for the last year to keep him outta trouble, but it did'nt work. I'm not kidding...he is like 18 still. He called me once this summer and told me he was running from the cops in this car....no shit... and with a stock 4 banger, hahaaaa. He also parks it on the front lawn of his house on Main st., not very hard to find him. He'll never grow up! I took it back for the winter make over but just have'nt got to it yet... working on a customers 30 coupe and my 32. So the top has'nt gotten wacked yet like I thought. The kid that works for me was busy working on his shit at home, so I get to play with my stuff. But I was working on other stuff instead of pulling the 29 apart. Its a coming though!!! And the coppers won't catch my old man anymore, hahaaaa. Ok, so what have I been up too... old paint....got some. Was'nt sure I was going to share this yet...but I cant stop thinking bout this post the whole time... Frame and parts are'nt final...so I was reluctant to show it yet...
the coupe is actually my daily driver now(painted now) the other two(truck and sedan)are next projects....
I hope most of these cars are in the building stage. Only a few deserve to be left the condition they are in. Cool cars I agree, but don't try to sell me on the weathered look or patina. Been there, done that, lived it. In my younger days I longed to have nice paint on my rides. I don't want to go back there.
Sorry, my mistake...it was a 30/31 that I saw, same hood ornament, same color, I think, and wheels, too?
I think this is original paint. I can't see any other layers beneath it on the spots where it's rubbed through.
this was a car that dad owned for about five years.he sold it about three years ago to a man up north.the guy called us up because he had heard that we had it,dad shot him a big price and he bit.the coupe had 59,000 original miles and never been taken apart.he bought it out of clarksville tenn.,within an hour of getting home with it we were driving it around.it was a fun car. -danny
This had had poor storage by a guy who should have known better. It is an all original 1947 Vincent HRD Rapide.
Here's mine. 37 Chevy PU. Spent 37 years in a field and 11 months in my shop to get back on the road, 4 or 5 paint jobs, and who knows how many drivers later I think she's beautiful.
