Here’s my 1968 F350 that I have owned since 1996. I bought it to make a living buying and selling wrecks but I hated that kind of work. However I loved the truck and still do. Mostly all original and unfortunately it shows. The only thing I’ve customized is added power steering and I made the custom super single wheels on the back which have held up flawlessly since 2008. I s****ped the towing equipment way back when due to insurance issues. The original 360 purrs like a kitten with an RV cam. Granny gear is so low I can walk beside it idling, 4.56 rear. Right now it has been neglected so I can get my 59 Ranchero on the road. I would be open to trades on this btw.
I got my handle living in trucks like this. When starting the game we only had a plate with a dead tire on the cable for cushion. The GM brands mid 60s had a roll pan below the bumpers. This required one to lay the chains out, hook the J hooks, then lay a 4X4 board (timber) on the chains to keep from mashing the sheet metal pan. As the whole thing raised often the Timber wanted to roll rearward, so ya had to, with one hand, place it where it would raise to meet the frame horn and keep the chains away from the tin. The other hand was working the control switch for the winch. Lotta fun, When we were able to afford the 'sling strap' set up I was g***ed at the ease.
@Tow Truck Tom yup I remember that although my rig had the high tech sling and still retains the PTO and clutch levers out back. What fun it is driving a tow truck, more so when someone else is footing the bill.
I just sold my 68 to an enthusiastic local 17 year old. It was time. I hope to see it on the road someday.
Good for you and even better for the young guy. Having a car to work on is a great thing for a young person.
