Old ww2 tire qustion??

    Sitting down watching a show the other night on sunken ships from ww2 and I notice on one of the cargo ships wreaks that was carrying a load of jeep tires that there was white lining under the black wall jeep tires..You can see the white coming through the side wall..Got me thinking why was this done..They were army jeep tires not wide white wall!! any incite into this would be great..

    I don't know the exact answer to what but as to why, $'s to dust bunnies it was a material change due to wartime shortages.

    If the sidewall was seperating you were probably seeing the tire cord.

    White rubber is stronger than any other color.... haven't you don't a balloon toss before? Everyone goes for the white balloons!! :D

    Rubber is white... carbon black and other ingredients are used to make tires black. Gary
