  4. are we looking for true 50's oldies? I like them alot. Not too familiar w/ the bands today.

One of my favorites is - "Mr. Sandman" for starters. Its the song they used in "Back to the Future" in the soda shop.

"slow down little Jaguar"- keep cool my thunderbird Ford!
The Great Jack-O-Fire did and excellet cover of that song- find it on the "destruction of squaresville" comp of their singles. actually that record has a bunch of good driving songs that they cover like "own up time" from the small faces(another great organ insturmental like green onions), "judgement day" from the pretty things, "boss hoss" from the SONICS.

hmmmmm- now that i think about it...what else would you listen to while driving except the sonics...=)

I see you're only interested in the truly Moldy Oldies, the songs that are played in endless rotation on stations thoughout the nation. Why don't you just record one of their shows?
Frankly there was so much great music made in the '50s that it's a crime to keep rehashing the same 200 songs forever.
And that "if it ain't from the '50s, it's junk" is a really open minded attitude towards music.
Sheesh, I wish I understood you guys.

    59Ford's recommendations I like.
A few others I like as well that were mentioned:
Be Bop a Lula - Gene Vincent
18 Miles to Memphis - Stray Cats
Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash (a classic...overdone but I still love it)
    Mystery Train/Tiger Man - Elvis
    Little Sister - Elvis
    That's Alright Mama - Elvis
Knoxville Girl - (I tend to favor BR5-49's version)
Driving Wheel - Danny Gatton (just about anything from his Humbler CD is great)
Lonesome Train (on a Lonesome Track) - Johnny Burnette Trio
Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
Dick Dale's version of Ghost Rider in the Sky is pretty awesome too.

I'm sure there are more. Of course these are just some of the oldies that I'd pick for a compilation. I can keep going if you wanted more modern or a different style (hard rock, psychobilly, punk, surf, etc)

Say, what's that Johnny Cash song someone's using in a commercial these days about having been everywhere...he lists all these cities and stuff in it. I absolutely cannot remember the name of that song.

Man 59Ford... well done. I find that even if i tried, listening to newer music in my car just doesn't seem right. Twenty Flight Rock is a must. And although he's got plenty more songs about actually driving, Johnny B Goode always makes me want to put the pedal down.

Waitin' in School - Ricky Nelson
    Rumble - Link Wray
    Book of Love - Monotones
    Midnight Train - Elvis

All the others I wanted to mention have been said
