are we looking for true 50's oldies? I like them alot. Not too familiar w/ the bands today. One of my favorites is - "Mr. Sandman" for starters. Its the song they used in "Back to the Future" in the soda shop.
lowrider is a staple, of course. another song called "dragster" onthe hot rod and custom classics 4 cd set is amazing, and your jan and dean/beach boys car songs are as essential as air and water...

[ QUOTE ] Theres another great song from Chuck Berry ( don't know title) but it's about him racing a Jaguar. [/ QUOTE ] "slow down little Jaguar"- keep cool my thunderbird Ford! The Great Jack-O-Fire did and excellet cover of that song- find it on the "destruction of squaresville" comp of their singles. actually that record has a bunch of good driving songs that they cover like "own up time" from the small faces(another great organ insturmental like green onions), "judgement day" from the pretty things, "boss hoss" from the SONICS. hmmmmm- now that i think about it...what else would you listen to while driving except the sonics...=)
Hey Little Cobra (The Rip Chords) Be-Bop-A-Lula - (Gene Vincent) Wanderer - (Dion) Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On - (Jerry Lee Lewis) Ain't That a Shame - (Fats Domino) Mr. Eliminator - (Dick Dale) I Get Around - (The Beach Boys) G.T.O. - (Ronny & the Daytonas) Ballad of Thunder Road - (Robert Mitchum) Goin' Back to Memphis - (Jumpin' Gene Simmons)

i'm a big fan of social d/mike ness..especially ball and chain (for the mention of his chevy) and i'm in love with my car..then i'd have to second you on the selection of hot rod gang and five oh ford Creepy
I see you're only interested in the truly Moldy Oldies, the songs that are played in endless rotation on stations thoughout the nation. Why don't you just record one of their shows? Frankly there was so much great music made in the '50s that it's a crime to keep rehashing the same 200 songs forever. And that "if it ain't from the '50s, it's junk" is a really open minded attitude towards music. Sheesh, I wish I understood you guys.
Ravens...Hurricanes...Dells...Lee Andrews and the Hearts...The Nutmegs and not to mention the Solitaires!
59Ford's recommendations I like. A few others I like as well that were mentioned: Be Bop a Lula - Gene Vincent 18 Miles to Memphis - Stray Cats Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash (a classic...overdone but I still love it) Mystery Train/Tiger Man - Elvis Little Sister - Elvis That's Alright Mama - Elvis Knoxville Girl - (I tend to favor BR5-49's version) Driving Wheel - Danny Gatton (just about anything from his Humbler CD is great) Lonesome Train (on a Lonesome Track) - Johnny Burnette Trio Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis Dick Dale's version of Ghost Rider in the Sky is pretty awesome too. I'm sure there are more. Of course these are just some of the oldies that I'd pick for a compilation. I can keep going if you wanted more modern or a different style (hard rock, psychobilly, punk, surf, etc)
59 Fords a man of my heart. All the one I was going to suggest he already has. I would be interested in a cd though.
Say, what's that Johnny Cash song someone's using in a commercial these days about having been everywhere...he lists all these cities and stuff in it. I absolutely cannot remember the name of that song. -Taylor
"Jack Baymore and the Bandits" is one I can't get enough of. Also I love old "Nick Curran." I am also a big fan of the "Loud Fast and Out of Control" box set.. Good Luck I love arrangin music for a cruise.. Justin

Man 59Ford... well done. I find that even if i tried, listening to newer music in my car just doesn't seem right. Twenty Flight Rock is a must. And although he's got plenty more songs about actually driving, Johnny B Goode always makes me want to put the pedal down. Waitin' in School - Ricky Nelson Rumble - Link Wray Book of Love - Monotones Midnight Train - Elvis Tallahassee Lassie - Freddy Canon All the others I wanted to mention have been said Deke
