I know theres a big Olds following here so I thought this would be the best place to ask for help. I just picked up a 55 Olds 4 door hard top ( I think its a 98) the car has factory AC and power everything! The door jamb tag says its a 55 but the motor number seems a bit fishy. Does anybody have a way to decode a engine block #? Here's the # off the block. V735652 I pulled the motor, removed the heads and oil pan. Turns out the motor is a fresh rebuild with 0 miles but for some reason I dont think its the original motor. Thanks for the help. P.s. This car has a great body and LOTS of good parts. Send me you requests. Ill sell parts cheap. Oh yea, both rocker arm mounts are cracked, the ones with the dowel pin holes. Anybody have a few x-tras??? Drop me a line at home. pflaven@hotmail.com
it's a '55.those "dowel pin" holes in the rocker pedestals are actually for oil.i used to have some extras but i mangled'em,sorry-george
One of my motors has what looks to be a brass/bronze pedestal..... dunno how that got there prolly Kiwi ingenuity !! Pete, are there any tail light lenses in that car ? I have a lady here in NZ looking for some, if they are there let me know....I might want some other bits too depending on whats there. will drop you an email too.
Ill take some photos of the car in the morning when I have some light. There are a few pairs of taillights and bezels along with***** loads of other stuff. My plans are to remove and box everything in the trunk then take photos. So hang in there. Pete- P.s. I do need those pedistals. Pete-
No info huh.. Im trying to find that web-site that has*****loads of engine id listings, anybody remember what the addy is?? Pete-
Pete, From Yorg's post it looks to be a 55 motor, I'm real interested in any lenses, oh and the rocket88 of the boot if its an 88. Thx, Paul.
I should have extra rocker mounts one on of the 7 sets of heads I have. Does that car have the little 88 emblems on the door panels?
My Olds book shows 55 engine casting #'s to be V400001 to V983275. It goes on to say in that series was a slightly de-tuned 185 HP and a 202 HP option ($35 more ).
if its got the 4bbl then shes 202 hp (hey thats almost 1 horse per 3 pounds) thats a pretty fine ratio if it wasn't for the balance of the weight of the car dragging it down
Pete: Here's the website with the Olds engine info thats mostly pretty accurate: http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofeng.htm#INDEX%20Engines1949%20-%201964
Thanks for the help everyone! Bleeh, that sounds correct. My plans were to dismantle the whole car this week but work has picked up to the point where im too tired to do anything. I will try to do it early next week or even this week if time permits. Yorg and the rest of the guys, hang in there...keep sending me reminder e-mails with parts needed. Thanks Pete-
