What were they called? I know the Pontiac was a Silver Streak, I think. Anyway, today I found a 50 Olds 88 2 door with the fleetline style body. It would be a challenge to save but it's all there and a stickshift. I'll get some pics up tomorrow.
I think the Pontiac version was called "Streamliner", Buick used the "Sedanet" name, Olds had a name that escapes me at the moment. The first Chevy 'fastbacks' in the '40s were called "Aerosedans".......but are frequently referred to as "Fleetline", but I believe that is technically incorrect, as Fleetline was a trim level, not a body style. I have heard the Buick version called sedanette, I think the guy has one of those too but at a different location
Fleetline was a body style on the 46-52 cars; 49-52 the only trim levels were "Special" and "DeLuxe" ... one didn't have as much stainless trim as the other.
If that "50" is a V8 with a standard shift the I would not let it get away. It should have the one year only ****** with the short tail shaft and many valuable parts.
I respectfully disagree, in part. In 1941 the 'formal' look 4 door sedan body (no rear quarter windows) was introduced and was continued through 1948 models. That body style was known as the Fleetline, and stood in contrast to the far more common 6 side window sedan, which was, I think, the Styline. Styleline was also a trim level in the '49 and later models, as I recall. I am at a bit of a disadvantage at the moment, being away from home and my reference materials. Ray
That's what I was thinking, I want that stickshift. The old farmer has never sold anything but seemed like he might, wouldn't price anything and wanted me to throw out a number. I told my opening offer is always s**** price and we go from there. He also claims to have a ***le but in the last guys name. I told him a good ***le in his name would jump the price. We sat there for 1/2 hour and he never counter offered so we finally left. I offered to bundle on an open topped coke machine and a set of aluminum buick drums I found loose. Also this buick was next to it and they said they had another one the same year but a 2 door like the Olds body.
Also at the same location. Coupe isn't for sale, guys kid owns it and always dreamed of fixing it up, although he admits he is incapable of doing so. Ford on it's roof belongs to another guy I have to get a hold of and I guess a neighbor has another one like it.
From the pic that Olds doesn't look bad as compared to the **** we deal with here in the NE! Hope you manage to buy it.
lots of cool stuff out there. I think if I was an old fart with property and used up cars that I didn't really want to sell I'd tell interested parties you only get to make one offer so you better make it a good one. then when they lowball me with s**** price I'd send them packing. if they made another offer I'd sick the dog on them.
Hnstray is right on the Pontiac being the Streamliner. The other body style offered was the Torpedo. Not for sure but I think " Siver Streak was designated to the 8 cylinders or Deluxe models but I could be wrong on that. Hell I could be wrong on all of it.
Yeah, well that isn't the way people treat visitors out here in the civilized part of the world. We were gracious, respectful and honest, he was also gracious, just not ready to sell yet. I think we both left the door open, he gave me his number.
