I gave up the mechanical variety 15 years ago and went electric. Running a Stewart Warner 12 volt unit that has been a reliable mainstay for all of those years. I keep a spare pump with me to be safe but have never had to use it. Also have a mechanical pump, but mine is for the 371 engine. If you haven't already, you might want to check with Fusick's or Kanter's. both have websites and Fusick has an online catalog that you can download.
The Holley pumps are loud for sure. You can isolate the pump from the frame with some rubber between the bracket and the frame, this will cut down the noise quite a bit. I have used tire inner tubes folded a few times for thickness if a piece of thicker tubber is not available. also make sure you mount the fuel line in rubber insulated clamps, do the same for the filter. This will take most of the noise out, but there will still be a buzzing sound. Some Carter pumps and others are much quieter. usually the pumps designed for replacing stock mech pumps, as opposed to 'racing' pumps are the quiet ones.
make certain to mount close to the tank. These pumps are made to push, not pull. If mounted in the engine compartment, they are VERY loud!
