I need the length measurement for a 394 water pump, from the engine to where the pulley goes.
I need to figure out what clearance I need between the engine and radiator and I don’t yet have a pump.

  2. I have a 394 in the shop. I will check tonight after work unless someone beats me to it.

You still want the pump and fan on the engine, and the radiator installed, along with everything else (manifolds, fuel pump, distributor, etc) before you do all the work of setting the engine in place. That's the first rule of engine swaps I learned long ago.

    Agreed Squirrel,
Fuel pump will be electric, manifolds will be built headers, and I can use the fan off my roadster for mock-up, but I don’t have a water pump yet...

    Thanks cactus.

Yep:) A local Napa has a sign that they can get you old parts. So, I thought for fun I would go in and get some brake cleaner spray cans. Went up to counter and stated their sign in the window. Proud as punch the counter guy said yes we can. I said, I need a water pump for my '55 DeSoto 291 hemi. Long pause:oops:

I believe those pumps are all the same from 49-64. That being said my 57-8 371 pump is 3 3/8" from the mounting flange to the front side of the fan mounting hub.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I know stuff.
    LOL
    saltracer219 does!
Yeah, bolt all the stuff to the engine to check for clearances. If you don't, you'll miss something, and it'll bite you later.

I live out in the sticks, so to get to decent parts house would be an hour or more.
