olds hydromatic?

I was looking at a 53 olds for my girlfriend that has the original 303 rocket and a 3 spd hydromatic tranny. The guy says it drives fine but slips in reverse. Are these trannys hard to find parts for or can I put a newer trans with a multi fit case in the car? Thanx for any help

 

It's a 4 speed.

A multi fit GM trans won't bolt to an early Olds

You can buy a new adapter kit to use a later GM A/T, but it's not cheap.

I'd be looking to fix the one you have. Someone here may have a source for new parts to fix it.

 

don't drive it until the transmission is completely serviced and adjusted. Often this can repair an issue.

there are parts and technicians available to repair your transmission.

they are worthy of repair, as they are durable and make your car fun to drive.
