As far as I know they were for late model (at the time) cars

  5. Hey Frank! Any progress on this? Last we heard, it was coming apart for paint... What's happening?

I had to park it in the storage area. Just finishined a wood boiler install that heats the house and the shop, and have a 37 Ply coupe coming in for some metal work this weekend.

That coupe will have a old time souped up 303 Olds that the owner had in a 32 5w, a few decades ago. I am not sure if he is putting the motor in, or me. It will have a T5 trans, and I am not sure how that would hold up.

  7. Ah, well I guess heat for the house is important with winter bearing down on us. :D

Olds 303 and a 37 Plymouth sounds like a good set up to me!

The body shell showed up right after the last post. Real solid car. Supposedly was bought from a police impound sale in Pa years ago, stored in their leaky building for a long time, after it was confiscated as a whiskey runner.

The Olds motor will be coming here for mounts/install when the body welding is done. All I know so far, is the 303 was built in 1960 with: Roller cam, #10 heads, 4x2 carbs, headers, sounds like Hurst mounts are there, as well as a complete 1950 Olds stick trans setup. But it will be swapped to the S10 trans and adapter he has.

  9. Sweet deal Frank and another Olds goes into service! Hope you got that heat deal dialed in and are warm and toasty in the shop now (and the house).

Olds in a Plymouth now that's interesting. Glad you have your heat all set up. Talk soon.

  11. Will you be adding that 1950 transmission to your collection of Olds parts?

  12. Unless he has a very light foot, the only thing that will take the torque of that Olds is the
S-10 shifter. Recommend he go with the beefier World Class version found in Camaros and Mustangs. (S-10 version is Non-World-Class) There have been some good threads in the past pertaining to abuse-ability, gear ratios, and swapping the S-10 tail-shaft for proper shifter location (almost like original Ford).

Talked to Frank with the snow and other projects he hasn`t gotten much done on the 32 but he did start back on it this week. maybe he`ll read this and keep on it. He says he`s got two fenders to do and some minor body work left and then its ready for paint. Go Frankie GO!!! I want to see you drivin that coupester this year!

I have 2 questions, along with a quick update.. The body is mostly apart as of today, getting the final blocking/priming etc. I plan on painting at least some of the pieces on Sat or Monday, if the weather holds. Yes, outside.

I was not going to get too fussy, but the more I do, it really is not going to take tons of work to chase most of the worst flaws before paint.

-I need opinions on fender beading COLOR. You saw the teal color on the dash, that is what the car will be. Then white: Roof, running boards, tires, interior. I can't see using black beading, but I wonder if white is going too far with the white deal? I will sew my own, and I use whatever size auto wire in the center, to make the bead small or bigger.

-Second question is where to find a bright white product for the running boards. Tried looking on hamb, and one thread gave a link, but that web store had huge rolls at over $500.. I googled/tried- boat mats, hospital places, stair tread places, etc??

Pic of the car 3 weeks ago to visualize the beads....and I found a 2008 pic of my little fucking beauty

  18. i think the fender welt black would look fine.
on the running boards are you using vinyl?
when you paint the car outside are you planning on pushing it out quick, then spray, then push it back in?

Fly down, and YOU can paint it :) Sunday or Monday.

That dash was not color sanded. It was only hand rubbed a few minutes with Soft Scrub bathroom tub cleaner :) . You can stop to where it looks like an older paint job, rather than high gloss.

The white has not been rubbed yet, just the teal color.

I really would like a pro painter to do the car..but..

edit, BTW, it is laquer paint.

Well, if you want a pro to do it, you better not get ME to fly down there!:p The main reason I like lacquer so much, is its easier for a hack like me who only paints a car every 5 years or so!;)

I am painting these parts & body tub/frame sides today, no matter what. Maybe it needs more, but I am done sanding; I honestly wore through my index finger tip, and have a crack in my thumb that I keep super glued

Outside, because the wood boiler is still going in the shop.

How about those parts stands :)

Also, at noon yesterday, the frame, fender and early version M2 front end kit showed up for that 37 ply coupe...so I will be busy. The owner says the front end was tacked in the frame and marked, but I need to verify that the caster/camber and wheel opening in the fender is correct. He is not bringing the 4x2 souped up Olds motor..dammit.. I wanted to see it. He wants to use one of mine for chassis set up.

Perhaps..... if I don't get paint on these pieces today, look in the swap area for a pile of red primered 32 shit...with some really crabby old guy.

No kidding, it's 11am, it's windy, gray skies, and too cold... Yesterday late, it warmed up nicely, wind stopped, but I did not have enough time left. Happens every time on an outdoor hack paint job.

I just cleaned the living heck out of my old Binks 7 and found another end cap with different air hole sizes in case I have pattern problems.

    Frank,
A couple questions. Is that a D-Fab mini dozer you loaded that '56 with? And does the guy with the Old's barn have a rear bumper for a '55 Super 88?

Finally read the whole thread over a few days (took a while). I'm blown away, awesome work.

White, Frank, you know its the right thing to do. If your gonna go period, go ALL the way.

  29. So how did your paint day turn out, Frank?

  30. I'll hitch up a trailer and come down for the Olds stuff. If you're going to get rid of the 32 stuff, might as well get rid of it all. :p

How'd the painting go? I'm glad to see progress again!
