i have been thinking about trying to make my 55 olds handle a little better. i want to retain my leaf springs in the back( jamco 3" drop springs with reverse eyes) and stock style front suspension. dont want to bag it dont have that kind of money. does anybody make a ball joint replacement control arms for a 55 olds? any help is appreciated
http://www.pontiacsafari.com/L1Garage/BallJointConversion.pdf I don't know the exact similarities for the front end of the pontiacs and olds but you may be able to go this route.
You need to understand how the suspension works before you go trying to make your car handle better. Most likely, if you don't have a good understanding of suspension theory, you'll just come out worse than before. I don't know what a '55 Olds has for front suspension, but IFS would be a good way to go in front and leaf springs can be made to handle. Might want to add something like a Watt's link or panhard bar though to control lateral movement. Or you could go 3 link, 4 link, truck arms. Lots of choices. You also might want to get ahold of Elpolacko. Don't know if he has a Dakota setup for Olds or not but he sure seems to know his stuff.
yeah it got ifs with kingpins. thanks for the info ill have to check out those dakota setups tha sound interesting.
Larger front sway bar and the addition of a rear bar are possibilities. Does the front have lever shocks which are also serve as the upper "A" arm or does it have tube shocks? Somewhere, perhaps the webrodder web site, I saw a conversion done for tube shocks. I do also have a set of 2-1/2" drop uprights, bought by mistake, that are for the later (than 1950) Olds but no dropped steering arms. The stock arms need to be heated and bent.
