Technical Oldsmobile 330ci sandblasting tablets

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by elroots33, Apr 9, 2025.

  1. Hello,
Can anyone tell me what is the diameter of the sandblasting tablet (I'm not sure of the technical word) of my 65 Olds 330ci ?
I measure the diameter on the cylinder head with a caliper but I'm not sure of my measurement ! I find 31,56 mm (sorry for the metric unit, I'm in France)
I find 1-1/4" tablets but in mm it's 31,75, too strong in my opinion !

I'm not sure what you are asking, it looks like something is getting lost in the translation.
Perhaps a photo of what you are measuring would be helpful.

Je pense que vous posez peut-etre des questions sur les comprimes anti-fuites.
Si les pastilles ne rentrent pas dans votre radiator, vous pouvez les emietter et les ajouter. Le moteur doit etre froid et monter on temperature.

I believe you may be asking about stop leak tablets, I hope this helps you.

  4. I'm talking about the holes on the cylinder heads which was used to cast the engine block. And then, closed with steel caps.
Look at the picture, svp !

The “too strong a measurement” that concerns you. Keep in mind that there is a slight taper to them. Meaning, smaller where they enter then larger to the outer edge. 1 1/4” is the size.

I can't tell you what size, but knowing that the Olds 330 shares the same basic dimension as all the Olds blocks up to, and including the 455 might help you get the freeze plugs you need.

Rock auto is showing two sizes in their listing 1-1/4 inch and 1-1/2 inch. This is for a 1965 Cutlass with a 330.
Dorman is a very common brand of parts here but I don't know about the availability in Europe. You may be able to match the measurements though.

You weren't far off in the translation as they are "core plugs" or "soft plugs" used to close off the holes from Sand Casting the coolant passages.

"sand casting" and "sandblasting" are probably easy to confuse!
