  2. That shifter works on later transmissions than we're talking about. Or at least, later transmissions than what have been shown on this thread. Confusing because the ad says its for a Hydro, but there are a few different 'Hydro' transmissions between 49 and into the 60s.

The dual-range hydro is a different beast, and this shifter won't fit it without alterations.

Ditto that. Do not even bother contacting them. Waste of time, plus they'll only try to sell you on their current products.

The old hydrostick stuff hasn't been available in decades....

  4. I know this is an old thread but I just found it and I need help with a shifter I think I have 61 Jetaway it is attached to ( I think a 61 olds 371) can anyone tell by the photos if this is true ? and can anyone explain how the two levers work,
The outside one seems to be the shift from drive to reverse but I have no idea what the othere one does and I have read this might not have a park but then I have read that is only for the 55 and earler ones
Please help and thank you for that help

I'd just get an old Mustang/Falcon/whatever Ford, factory floor shifter for an automatic, and throw out the detent plate. Plan on making another detent plate, or not. Just be sure the "geometry" is correct for the shifter lever throw relative to the transmission lever throw; ie 1:1, 2:1, etc. Should be simple enough to make, or remake. No cable shifter is going to be very easy, compared to a simple rod/lever arrangement. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Squirrel has an old B&M style in his Chevy II, later model hydramatic though

Look at the plate on the side of the transmission. Give us the full number and we can decode the year
of the transmission. BTW: That frame setup doesn't look real good at end of transmission. Normally there would be a plate crossing over the top to strengthen the frame members, and avoid twisting. The biscuit mounts on the frame are on the weak side, as hydramatics normally used a full crossmember due to those mounts being the torque mounts.

Not to hijack thread, this was my 46 Olds Hydra tag. I have some Hydra numbers but can't find them now. Hydro ID tag.jpg
