I'm Mike and am in the Denver area. All this automotive stuff started about 50 yrs ago in the 5 grade when my best friend & i put a lawnmower engine in a old burned out chusman frame and were almost immediately brought home in the back of the local squad car after crusing main street. Yahoo, were we something then! Spent some time in the military in vietnam and learned i didn't like that. Had numerous rides over the years, favorite was a 55 chev 2 door hardtop. Got into vintage auto racing a few years back, raced formula fords, was a hoot. Been draging around the major parts of a 31 chevy 2-door sedan for almost 15 years now and i think its time i did something with it. Currently, frame is on stands and i've got the body channeled 5 inches down over the frame. This is going to be the subject of most of my posts. Gonna need a lot of how to's. If anyone out there is doing an early 30s chevy, be glad to hear form ya. Mike in Denver
Tell more about the vintage racer. several hamb members have vintage circle track race cars........ Bobby....
To answer a couple of the replys... The cops took up back to our parents house slowly telling us scarey stories about how a couple of years earlier they caught a couple of kids our age and those two got sent off to "Boys School," and they suddenly disappeared, only one of their shoes were found out back of the school. And the shoe was all chewed up. WELL, being 8 1/2 yrs old, that put the fear of God in us, well, for a while anyway. A bunch of years later, Lee & I, had our drivers licenses and we took off and drove down to Rolla to find that Boys School. We finally found the imfamous place and it was then just a burned out shell of a building. No kids on torture racks or any screaming going on. What a let down. Vintage Racing - I was not a racer on the 50's or anything like that, although i did spend a fair amount of time at the local 1/4 dirt oval. Mainly, just going to get the guys cokes and handing them wrenches. That hot exhaust burn on your arm was more a badge of honor, something to brag about in school on Monday. My vintage racing consisted of racing a 1972 Winkelman Formula Ford on Colorado tracks in the 90's. Believe me, it was great. Your **** about 3 inches off the ground, top of your head no higher than 36 inches, being able to watch the entire front suspension working thru a corner. Pretty damm neat. If ya ever get a change to even just drive one around a parking lot, do it. Right now i have a vintage Lotus Formula Ford i'm trying to find all the parts for and get it restored/race ready. I got one of them digital cameras now and still trying to make friends with it. I was finally able to send a couple of photos to a friend as a test and that worked. Now, just trying to get photos to this board. I'll keep plugging away and hopefully soon, i get a photo of my 31 Chevy project posted here. Thanks, Mike
