I've always had a special affinity for Candy Apple Red, red being my favorite color anyway, but my experience (And concern) with candies from bygone days is the fade factor. The pigment tended to fade quite rapidly to the base coat from sun exposure back in the day. I've mostly stayed with either solid colors or factory type tri-coats since but I'd really like a real candy over my next planned body mods. HoC tells me that I can expect 10 or more years of color endurance with normal, regular washing, residue removal and polishing. So the question is, are modern candies really that durable?
i have been really impressed with the durability of the new urethane paints and clears. my wife drove a 66 mustang i painted with a bc/cc for 12 years [not winter]. when the car got hit the paint on the damaged body panels looked good. even at the point of impact and on bent metal i wouldn't be surprised if what they say is true but your in the sunshine state, all bets may be off.
