i have laid out the rusty frame with 6" extension on the cut line, it looks like i will have an approximate gap of 3/4" on each side. that could be stretched by the cuts to the upper & lower frame sides. but now, i am thinking of a Tardelish step at the rear, like my sketch but cut at a 60 deg angle instead of the 45. will lay it out on paper and decide. thanks to all so far

Here's how I did mine, this is a 3 inch drop but you can go about any size step. What I like is it takes less room than a Z and probably stronger....

All the steps are in my frame build thread...

IMAG0607.jpg Here is another pic I found, this shows how it fits to the housing. I have abot 1" clearance between the housing and the frame thru the curve in the rail. The rusty square tube is just holding the frame off the housing until I got the quarter elliptical springs mounted.

Anyway you can see how tight and small I was able to keep everything. I wanted as much floor space as I could get, it's a 31 tudor and I wanted to keep the back seat.

Also I was able to keep clearances tight because of the triangulated 4 link.

    Anyway hope it helps!

Here's how I stretched my '53 Chevy pickup frame a foot for my king cab project. I found a piece of rectangular tubing that slipped over the parted frame ends. I boxed the inside of the rails and did wedge wrelds on all 4 sides. Very strong. Your frame likely shows so you probably can't do the slip-over sleeve patch.
