I've been wanting to build my modified for the Jalopy Showdown for a while now. Well time is running out. We came up with a plan. We are going to try and build it in 6 days. Now I'm not talking fancy paint and all the doodads. I'm talkin about just what's needed to make it go around the track. We're going to do two weekends of thrashing. Then I'll take two days to tie up the loose ends. We will more than likely have a crew of about 6, all of which have different talents. When it's done each of the guys that works on it gets to play with it at the Showdown. Plus for an added bonus Tank (onelow48)is making special CDs for the crew. What do you guys think. Are we crazy? Can we pull it off? We're gonna have a blast trying. Here's a pic of the body. I think it's a Dodge but I'm not sure of the exact year. Clark
Dammit, that would be so cool to come down and be a gofor or just watch and learn kinda thing. good luck and get pics. later plmczy
AHotRod....There was a budget of $999 and we were going to put the numbers 999 on the side. We ran into one snag. I need an open banjo rear for it. No luck so far. Well a friend has a Halibrand non quickchange center section that is for an open driveshaft. It solves our problems but it costs $400. We have talked about buying it and "loaning" it to this project till we can find a cheap rear. Motor and trans (Ford 4 cyl)were freebies. The body cost $150. The complete front suspension cost $150. The Whippet grill and radiator cost $75. Wheels and tires cost $250 (new ribs on the front and old knobbys on the back) Taillights cost $45 We'll have to figure in the misc. later. Clark
do I think it can be done? let's do the math, 6 guys thrashing for 2, 2 day weekends working at least 10 hour days would equal 240 man hours or better, plus your 2 days should mean a minimum of 260 man hours.. that's like one guy working full time for 6 or 7 weeks. piece a cake. only thing is, who will hold the camera? Paul
The body is a Dodge Brothers probably early to mid twenties. The windshield mounts are different than my 18. Good luck on the build up. Eric
Its 999 damn it, I told you the rear is just a loaner. This should be interesting. Ready for a couple more all nighters Johnny??
Are you kinding me that will be do with time to spare you got the master of the thrash down there you'll be fine.
Tommy....If it doesn't rain we'll be watering the track down until the water truck gets stuck. It just ain't right without the mud!! Clark
monster, monster garage. monster, monster garage. On this episode, Jesse realizes how cool the guys from So-What are.
Update? Hell Boones, my dumbass buddy Clark wont even let us start until the show is closer...more of a challenge. Wouldn't want to finish early would we? Might spoil the panic finish.
The CDs are in the works. As for tool boxes, I think I have a couple of cardboard boxes around here. We start this weekend and that may be too soon. Clark
Hey Clark, Maybe when I come to pick up my rockeriffic jacket I can brake something on the modified?? Give it that special "Duck was here" touch...or give it some of that special "Duck Up-Chuck salsa". I'll give you a call later this week. -Duck
