Thought I'd share my somewhat redneck on the road repair to my pickup while attending the NSRA Nats East in York PA this past weekend. The dang brake return spring that is tempered steel so you can't bend the broken end into a hook because it will break off when bent with pliers; snapped when I stomped on the brake on the fairgrounds. A number of folks searched their stuff for a replacement but we couldn't locate one amount the participants, show vendors, nor vendors in swap meet so I had to improvise. I do want y'all to note that I used a blue bungie cord whose color is consistent with the Portsmouth Street Rod Association's club colors. Worked well all the way home. Without it, the brake lights stayed on and the brakes might have dragged slightly which would have led to considerable heat buildup on the long drive home. This was my 23rd year and here is a picture of the usual suspects that have gone with me nearly every year... the new guy has been going 16 years.
Amazing what we can do when its MacGuyver time. I made a gas pedal and linkage from a curtain rod one time. It worked so well, I left it on.
Once I worked on an OT job that had just left one of the many gas station/repair shops. The throttle pedal pivot had rusted away, so the head mechanic put a tennis ball under it .... That truck is nice !!!
Glad you like the truck. Here's our camp at the fairgrounds. And a comparison of the 1936 Ford cabriolet and 1936 Ford Super Deluxe pickup Of course, the 36 Fordy pickup is a hybrid and the cabriolet is an X 3 window!! Some of us do things differently... ain't sure if we're smarter... or dumber!!!
