Hey guys thanks a lot! Yeah been trying to get the car on the road before this one gets here! Free time is a very hot commodity these days! And my daughter is about to the age that she wants to go do stuff. We will pick this hot rod stuff up again in a few years!

You may remember from a previous episode of how not to build a hot rod, I built a set of lake style headers. I was going to put some of those speedway auger muffelers in them, but I think they would still be crazy loud. So I ordered a Smithy gl***pack, cut it in half, changed up the flanges and welded them in place . The Smithy gl***packs are directional, do I had to cut one of the tubes and turn it around. I also used a mandrel bend tube and built some turnouts for them. I plan on wrapping them with header wrap, but I put a coat of high temp paint on them especially on the flanges to hopefully keep the rust down. I think they turned out pretty awesome for a bunch of leftovers and ****** welds!

Great work on the mufflers and good luck with the white paint. If that's VHT 2000° header paint there's a VERY specific way to use it. Trust me, first time I fired mine up they literally dripped off onto my beautifully painted frame!

It doesn't say so on the can, but you have to dust it lightly the cook it in an oven at 400° for an hour, let it cure for 24 hours, build another coat, cook, another coat, cook. Or something like that. When I confronted a VHT rep at SEMA years ago he confessed they don't put the directions on the can because it looks like too much work and nobody would buy it.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, your work is great! Just wanted to give you a heads up about a potential upcoming problem.

Thanks for the info! Yeah I figured there was some trick to this. I tried that stuff before and it went up in smoke! Oh well! They wouldn't fit in my oven, and my wife would kill me! I went over them with a propane tourch, hopefully that will help!

Hey guys, work sent me to France this week. Been pretty sweet wondering around after work. Crazy how everyone is so stoked and interested about my car. Here all the cars have to stay 100% stock, you can't change anything! You can't even put rims on a.car. Cruisin around in a new Opal diesel miro car. Crazy efficient, even turns off when you stop. A tank of fuel was about $60 american. Crazy!

Well I'm back in the states and back on the car. I have been working on mounting the battery and battery cables. Took a while to get them ran all the way from and through the trunk. The positive is pretty close to the fuel line, but that is the way we do it in the airplane world, 1/2" clearance. Welded some bolts on the frame for ch***is grounds. Not pretty, but they seem pretty stought.

While under there I noticed some stuff. I left the sway bar mounts on the rear end housing, thinking I may us them, but I guess I never noticed how close they were to the frame. Going to have to cut them off.

It also looks like the tabs that the back body bolts go through are starting to sag. not sure what I am going to do about that!!!!

Ha...looks familiar. I was in Ireland last week...paid 1.44 euros/litre...for diesel. Cost me 100 euros for a full tank, or about $140. Gasoline was more, just over 1.50/litre.

Edit: hey! The gas pump picture was there...then it was gone!

Thanks Jim, yeah we are super excited! Yeah I think I am going to try to jack the body up a little off the frame and see what I can do. Not a lot of room between it and the rearend.

I hear ya! I was just glad the company was paying and not me! I took a two hour drive down to Spain and it cost me like $40.00 in tolls too! I think I know why the people I met don't get out much!

I have the auger mufflers in my headers with turnouts and it's surprising how much they actually muffle it down. I do love what you did with the Smithy's. I love the creativity that goes on building these things.

I was going to try to fire her off yesterday, but as I was filling my radiator, I heard my water pump fizzing. Turns out it had a crack! EVERYTHING on this motor is brand new..... except the water pump. My dad was trying to save me a buck and gave me this used one..... oh well, there is s new black one on there now.... they are supposed to be better :)

We got her fired off on Sunday! Super stoked! She ran pretty good, was kind of loading up and my fan wasn't hooked up right so we didn't run her long. It was crazy loud, like made my daughter cry loud!. so the smithy's didn't work so well.... Tonight I cut down (tapered) some auger mufflers, hopefully they will work better!
