Hi gang.Been swapping out my wifes intake on her 1963 Ford Thunderbird.Went to pull the rocker gear off & noticed there isnt a tray under the arms for oil,is this something for 63 only?Every other FE I have has one, just wondering, cheers
There are several different styles but they all had them. Not running them can result in the valve guides and seals drowning in oil which would give you blue smoke. They also help the oil pumped up to that area to drain back by directing the oil to the drain back holes in the heads. Pete
Someone removed them. Those FE,s for the most part have non adjustable rockers. You supposed to be able to get .060 longer & shorter pushrods to adjust the valves. I have in the past removed those steel trays so as to tighten up the clearance to reduce noise from bad lifters & worn rocker,s. It seemed to work Ok? OldWolf
Thankyou guys for your replies.I thought it was strange when I took the covers off.I have a heap of them in my shed so I will be putting them back in.Cheers
yup, and contrary to what the other guys seem to have experienced on here, I FREQUENTLY find that they are missing.
