I finally pulled the original column shift lever out of the mast of the Impala. Why did I wait almost 3 years to do this? Why did the guy I bought it from, who put the (horrible) B&M ratchet shifter in it not do it during the 30 odd years he had it?
I can't answer that, but it's an improvement. I was going to grind the boss for the lever down and fill the hole, grind the indicator pointer off and remove the chrome "PRNDL" indicator, but somebody, someday, might want to put it back to original. Besides, I kinda like it.
Next step, getting rid of the stupid ratchet shifter... DD1EBDC6-BFDC-4202-B3B8-2707150DDC29.jpeg DD1EBDC6-BFDC-4202-B3B8-2707150DDC29.jpeg

I did a 62 Impala for a friend of mine. We did Autometer gauges ( oil, temp, gas ) in those three bezels below the speedo. We dumped all the idiot lights and gas gauge. I found a great new love for that interior design

I’m going to do that. The clock doesn’t work nor the temp gauge. There are 2 gauges in a plastic pod below the das, oil pressure and temperature but they don’t match so, out they will go.
