I had to soak a '62 Chevrolet distributor in solvent to get it apart, it was really caked up inside the shaft area. When cleaning it out, I blew out the material in the small oil port that wicked oil to the upper bearing. It looks like large saw dust bits soaked in oil. Does anyone know how to refill it so oil wicks like it should?
Another vote for felt. At one time, years ago, walmart sold a heavy felt in the sewing dept. don't know if they still do though. .
McMaster sells felt sheets. Get a small piece and use it for other things like oil soaked washers under battery terminals. Yardage stores will have it too.
I packed it full of cotton, oil soaked right in. After it sets awhile I will see if I can get more in it. Oil ran down the shaft on to the bench, so I know it went through.
