Another newbie here. I've been a lurking reader off and on for a couple of years but never got around to registering. So, I was wanting to do some searches to look at some things and the only way to do that was to register. So, here I am. I figured I might as well introduce myself while I was at it. So, who am I? First off, I'm really a Mopar guy. I live in Marietta, GA. I've been in to cars in general since I was a little boy (thanks to dad). I've done some restorations but never really done much hot rodding. Now I plan to remedy that. Also, I'm 41 years young. What cars do I have? Naturally, I have several Mopars that are all Barracudas - a 66 Cuda, 68 Cuda convertible, and a 69 Cuda fastback. The 66 is pretty much complete at this point (I can post pics if you care). I have a little work on the windshield washer system and some underhood wiring cleanup plus some other little odds and ends and it will be done. Its 100% bone stock and I'm going to keep it that way (interior is all original). 68 vert has been painted but its got a loooong ways to go before getting finished. It will be mostly stock-looking but with a ton of performance upgrades (a sleeper I hope). The 69 fastback is a project and its in ****py shape - its not worth going original or even close. Not 100% sure what I'm going to do with it. Right now, I'm thinking about dropping a 2.4L 4 banger in it and setting it up to be a daily driver that gets good gas mileage (aka Project EconoCuda). We'll see how that goes - may happen, may not. I have enough extra parts from over the years that I should be able to do it fairly cheaply (which is good). That leaves one car and the reason I came to this board - my 1930 Model A Sport Coupe . One thing I didn't mention above is that I'm a HUGE Georgia Tech fan. A lot of you might know that one of our mascots is a 1930 Model A Sport Coupe - the Ramblin Wreck from Georgia Tech. This is why I got a Model A despite really being a Mopar guy. And, I've given this project the code name of the Ramblin Rod. So, my plans are to drop a 354 hemi I have in the A and paint the body a satin/flat gold to match the real Wreck (which is gloss but I want a more rod looking paint job) and then add some white flames (also satin/flat) with an old school GT Yellow Jacket painted in the flames on each side. I'd like to drop the ch***is down and leave the fenders on and paint them white. I may also extend the frame a couple inches to buy some room for the 354. I'll also use lake headers of some sort (with caps and a rear exhaust). I don't think I'll chop it because I'm 6-4 and I want to be able to drive it without pulling a Dino from the Flintstones through the roof. I bought the car a number of years ago and I'm not sure when I'll get to it. I can't decide whether to do the Ramblin Rod or the Econocuda next. I think it may depend on where gas prices go in the coming months and where my next job is located. The further I drive and the higher gas goes, the more likely it will be I'll do the Econocuda first. I have a 24x36 garage out back (in addition to standard issue 2 car garage on the house). So, I have plenty of room (although its getting a bit crowded with all the cars. I do need to get me a welder, though. Anyhow, that's my extremely long-winded introduction. I'll probably lurk more than I post since I'm really new to the whole hot rod fabrication stuff. I've done a lot of restoration work but have always wanted to delve more in to the rod scene. We'll see how it goes. Oh...and if any of you were up in Cartersville, GA last night (July 5) at the cruise-in, I'll have to let you know that you guys were the reason I came on today. You all were sporting your H.A.M.B plates on your cars and I remembered that I hadn't been here in quite a while and decided to look around for more ideas on the Ramblin Rod. Your stuff looked fantastic - really enjoyed it. And thanks for letting me on board.
welcome. just so you know , your mopar cars probably won't fit in here...but the `30 model a ford with a 354 hemi does and sounds interesting. post some pictures if you have them
Yeah, I knew the Cuda's weren't a real good match for this site. I largely hang out at http://www.moparts.com for them. But, I figured I'd mention my background and where I'm coming from. Anyhow, here's what my Model A looks like right now.... And here is the 354 hemi...
