One of my worst days ever...very on topic

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by mytlo56, Dec 31, 2003.

  1. Well, The Vic. made its*****ing way across the God forsaken country today and guess what? No really, just*****ing guess?

It got trashed to hell on the back of the truck. The************** truck driver wasn't paying attention and a tie down smashed against the side of my blessed, just finished, cosmetically damn near perfect car all the way across the country!

I'm heart broken. And to make it worse, my father poured his heart and soul into this car in my absence to finish off what I couldn't afford to out here in Seattle. To tell him over the phone damn near killed me.

If any of you guys have or know where I can find the front fender and door trim, please let me know.

That just makes you sick. The driver didn't see this? What an idiot. I hope you were compensated for it.

We'll see. Dad is checking w/ the shipping co. tomorrow. If they don't pay for all the body work someone will be walking w/ a limp and I guarantee it ain't gonna' be me or pops.

Damn, what an idiot! Someone ought to can his****!
Fortunately, the door trim is stainless and can be worked and polished...much easier and better than trying to find a good-as-new-piece.

The fender and door doesn't look that bad that a good bodyman couldn't put it back as good as new...again, trying to find 48 year old sheetmetal in as good a shape as what you've got is going to be hard...

And get a competent insurance adjuster, one who knows the value of old cars, to give you estimate...better yet, find your own old car estimators and present three very high estimates to the carrier.

    that really*****s!

hope insurance comes thru for you, clearly the shipper is responsible, so good luck. and some of the rest of you could be a little careful what you call the driver, if that car was on the top of a carrier, even on a walk around, it could be hard to see the loose tie down strap, and damn near impossible to see in the mirror on the right side of the truck. it only takes it being loose for one stretch, and its nothing for a trucker to go a few hundred miles without stopping, the real test of the company will be seeing how they handle the claim.

  16. That's a cryin' shame. Hopefully you'll get it all worked out with the shipper's insurance...maybe even come out ahead on it all! Try to keep a positive thought and everrything will turn out for the best!

Hopefully, the insurance will fix it up for you. But, dangit, you still gotta get up in the morning and look at that mess. I feel for ya.

On a postitive note, it looks like the windshield was spared.....

Man that just*****S.....and trust me when I say,
"I know exactly how you feel"
It is impossible, for "non-car" people to comprehend just how deep the hurt goes when something like this happens.
Keep you chin up and good luck my friend.

Thats the pits !!!! I couldnt understand it busting and hitting one time . But non stop down the road, How many people do you think yelled and flagged the driver ? Didnt he ever check his load/ tires ?

  21. That*****s but it could be worse. We had a guy come in with a drag car for an estimate. The******** driver put a 3" tie-down OVER the front clip!!!???? Made this perfect channel to tie the car down with on future trips. [IMG]

I'm sorry man. That really*****s. Reminds me of when I got my '57 Buick. Had it 4 days when a drunk crashed into a fullsize pick-up totaling tha into a Volvo wagon which totaled that into the back of my Buick. Didn't do to much damage to the body, moved about 3 ft. but screwed the*******. I remember telling the cop "glad you got an ambulance here, you woulda needed it anyway" If the dude wouldn't have been hurt I would've hurt him bad.

I agree that really*****s, but tallk to the carrier and see what they say before jumping to conclusions. That is pure negligence, not a haphazard rock that was thrown up. They should be held responsible.

From my experience, these issues usually turn out "in the favor of" the car owner (Did THEY take pictures of the car before it left?)... If the carrier is a legitimate company, they are WAY insured for the actions of potentially idiot employees. Kindof like "Jiffy Lube" forgetting to put the drain plug back in...

    It will work out,

I don't want this to sound spammish, but my pops could easily fix that stainless. He fixes stainless trim as a sideline business, helps him fund his project!
