I was on my way to town this morning in my daily and a old Johnny Cash song came on the radio,:One piece at a time" and I thought about most of us build like that, then I got to thinking about all the parts we use and that lead to my past builds when I got a lot of my parts from the junkyard. I used Ford, Chevy,Buick parts, I also used Packard heater parts, Chris Craft boat dash, Dodge wheels, Jaguar coil over springs and a cut down Datsun bench seat. HRP
No sir, but this is what it looked like, The boat was sitting beside a gas station rotting away, the station belonged to a friends dad and he said he was going to s**** it, he gave me the dash cluster. I also used the column drop, I thought it was really cool. HRP
Being low $ teen,in the 1950s,I too did the one part at a time. Most was off junk cars in the woods or down a old dirt road. Didn't get much from junk yards, just the fill in things I could not find,so had to pay a little for. As well as trash cans an piles behind body shops an garages<I'd ask first, before doing that, had a number of cool talks with older guy's,who ask"What ya looking for??"
The photo is for visual reference, that was the style boat not the actual boat I pirated the dash insert from. HRP
