Thanks for reply. Is the front end bolted together or welded? Looks like there is insulation inside
of hood. Whats the length of your actuators? I see mounts on hood but not frame rails. Good source
    of info thanks

  2. Mogg. The length of actuators can be very short or quite long depending on where you mount them. The early ones I was involved in used Convert. top screws. They were quite long and easy to get in the 70's. Later on I used commercial units from places like Grainger,s. I mounted very short ones to the actual hinge and then to the Frame rail laying horizontal. These motors come in several load ratings and lengths. Again, wish I had some photos for ya. I liked keeping them short and out of the way.

Fenders are welded to hood, I stuffed a hood pad from a Lincoln to cover up bad paint. This was a pretty red necked up truck. Owners' Dad worked for me back in the 80's. We spent twice his budget to make it stop, start and steer. It is a cool looking truck. I'll get some photos of the actuators and the length of them Monday.

I am working on a 41 Ford and the fenders have to move forward about 3 inches to clear the contour shape at the cowl. since I made my own frame and DIY Mustang front end, I used a tube in a tube to make rollers that slip inside the frame horns.

I have a center bar where the bumper tabs are welded so the nerf bars will tilt as well. using linear actuators too because everything is really heavy.

BTW, this is the third design attempt to get it all correct so it looks good when closed [IMG][IMG]
