1st time out of the garage on 4 rolling wheels in 5 years! shit, it's the 1st time it's rolled on it's own wheels since it was rescued from the crusher!

this is a hamb project, through and through. it wouldn't even be a gleam in my eye without the help of *dozens* of individual hamb'ers and lots of volunteer hours.

we're getting closer to the hamb drags, both in time and in reality. thanks guys!

here it is at the yard in 2005...

Cool, I had a buddy with a yellow 63 with a 421 tri-power and four speed back in the mid sixties before I got drafted. This one ought to open some eyes at the drags.

Do you need a camshaft for that Poncho? If so, PM me and I'll donate a used one I have for the cause. Its a .505" Lift Crane unit.

thanks, but the motor's fresh, as well as the trans and rear end. most of the interior was refurbed, replaced and/or rehabbed.

What a killer car. Saved from the crusher? Really? I couldn't imagine doing that to a car that solid.

  28. Did the same thing with my '67 (yeah, know it's too new) Pontiac 2+2. It was sitting at a ranch out west, parked under a couple of trees for ten years when I bought it.

    This is my second 2+2, from 1970 to 76 I had a 66 coupe.

Ames Performance IIRC has the repop emblems for the '64, a one year only fender and deck lid tag with the staggered 2's.

I know quite a bit about those cars, and if I can be of help as I have a 1969 dated Pontiac parts catalog at home I can get you part numbers if needed for parts searches. Just P-M me.

They were interesting cars, Pontiac's answer to the Chevy Impala SS.
Built in the US from 1964 to 1967. In Canada until 1970.
1964,1965 and 1967 the 2+2 was a option ordered on the Catalina model, while 1966 had it's own unique VIN number, a 54XX series due to the difference in the quarter panels, three "gills" in it edged with chrome trim, below the quarter window.

I don't recall the production figure for the 64 or 65, but 66 only produced in the area of 5300 cars, while 67 was even less, 1768 IIRC.

Anyhow, I've only ever seen "in the flesh" less than a half dozen of these, a real rare bird. Congrats on your find.

the drivetrain is a story in itself, the motor came from superfriend mark's 1970 catalina station wagon, the last car i worked on. we cut the coils on the wagon, just a couple of weeks before my accident. mark sold it the next year; it went to a demo derby.

i wanted a 400/400 for the '64, so i located an engine and trans on craigslist, and when we picked it up, we found out that it came from mark's car! the heads are from my (late) step-brother's 69 gto, so it's got a lot of sentimental value, and we're hoping it has enough grunt to get into the 15s. i think 80-90 mph will be enough with the hand controls, at first anyway...
