Need opinions on best way to open shaved doors. Are solenoids or motors the way to go ? Opinions on sources will be appreciated. Thanks. John

I always use Ball's motors. Since the 80's. Even on daily drivers. I've seen many cars burn up due to stuck solenoids, so I don't trust them. Used them with regular waterproof buttons mounted under the rocker, remotes, and the magnetic sensors.
Even with the motors, I always put in an emergency door opening cable, in case of motor, sensor, button, or battery failure.

Yep, you will want to put some sort of emergency, manual back up on at least one of the doors. Years ago my Son had shaved doors on his car with solenoids and a remote to work them. Every so often he would pull into a 7-11 or other store and the lights there would somehow screw up the signal from the remote and the doors would not open.

He would have to run next door to an auto parts store, buy a spark plug, smash it on the ground, and then use a piece of the ceramic insulator to break one of the side windows to get in. After replacing a couple of side windows he finally put in a manual cable that he could pull when this happened.

  4. there was a thread here a few years back where the guy was experimenting with using the rear view mirror as a mechanism to work the door latch. i always thought this was a great idea.

  5. I used 235 Chev starter solenoids with a micro switch and a relay. Also had a backup cable in case the battery went dead. This worked many years on daily driver with no problems

I'm leaning to Ball motors. Watching the Blinky build on u tube started me thinking about using window motors to do the moving. Have to check sizes, maybe a vent window motor.
