    Hi Guys and Gals,
I'll apologise up front for asking the same question that I posted about 4-5 months back as I lost the thread (spme might say I lost the plot!!!)

So, to start afresh I'm planning to put a modern engine and trans in my French-built Matford Ford woodie, which is based on the late 1930s Model 60 car.

I've lined up a local chassis engineering specialist here in the UK but am looking for suggestions for adapting the rear suspension after I discard the torque tube. I didn't really want to fit radius rods as the car is pretty light and the four cyilnder motor will be 100hp so I wont be smoking the tyres...

I'd appreciate any suggestions and especially any photos that can steer me in the right direction.

    Colin

  2. Two options one os convert your original rear to open drive, can be done with a kit or if you look there is bound to be a thread on converting to open drive. your second option is to look for a mlate open rear the correct width and have spring perches welded to it. You can buy the perches from someone like speedy bill or any number of reputable suppliers.

  3. These are smaller cars than their American counterpart correct?

More in line with Anglia's,we used a Toyota rear axle in the Anglia we built back in the 80's. HRP

In general, later small SUV rear ends make great donors, depending on needed width. You can get them narrowed too but see what's available at the parts yard first.

In the US they might be Toyota Rav 4, Isuzu Trooper, Suzuki Samurai and the like. With some luck you can find one with the correct wheel bolt pattern.
