I saw an add on TV about vitamins for tinitus, so I went on an adventure to find these cures.

    LIPO-FLAVONOID

    "vitamins for ear health"

I took them for 2 months, and think maybe these could work for some of you guys.

they changed the "pitch of the ring" to a higher ring that I didn't like. My hearing test came back: yes you have tinitus, but you have a very differnent titinitus, and hearing loss. "I might be able to help you with hearing aids, but i'm not shure" $5000 chance it might help.

my ringing is constant. how ever, the ringing gets bad when I'm pushing it.. and quickly reminds me of my physical limits from a 25 year old accident

After many years of pulling tools in dealerships, and open headers in drag cars, and hammering on stuff I have had the ringing for years. Now at old age it is getting worse, some days to the point that it's all you hear. Yes, all the old guys used to tell me to wear ear plugs or someday I'd be sorry well here it is, sorry no, but thoes old guys know best, now I tell all the young guys to plug them up or you will be sorry.

Its unfortunate, but if you dont start wearing hearing protection early and make a good habit of it..this outcome is inevitable.
I learned late,,and have some difficulty hearing.
soft voices or certain tones...womens voices in noisy back grounds, all types of different frequencies, you name it.
Im not ignoring you, i just dont hear well.
working in the Heavy Industial Maintenance industry since 16..loud equipment, commercial sandblasting, chipping hammers, concrete breakers, Harley builder and rider for over 25 years, Play Guitar..etc..
and hearing loss is degenterative, meaning it will not get better.
I have heard of ear candeling (sp) not sure how much or if this even helps, probably not, damage is done. But it might bring back some of the hearing loss from having junk build up in your ears due to the damage., I dont know I havent tried it.
I will probably end up in a few years wearing a hearing aid im sure.
hard lesson for an 'ol dog to learn late in life, I now wear ear plugs when ever im in loud environments, or running equipment that is loud..maybe a little too late, but better now than never.

Funny that this thread should come back up at this time. Someone just sent me this link, go and hit the play arrows next to Frequency/age range and see what you can hear. I can barely hear the top one sometimes, but only if I face right into the speakers, my wife and son can't believe it, they say it's deafening for them, the rest, I hear nothing.

Years standing main engine watch on an old fast attack boat, make it easy to tune out the old lady's bitchin'! Had to wear double ear protection, and still ended up with a substantial loss.

  8. Just yesterday I heard on the radio that The Who (for a long time deemed to be the loudest band in the world) will probably have to stop touring and recording because Pete Townsend's Tinnitus (ringing) had gotten so bad.
    Truly sad

  9. The good thing about compromised hearing is that "selective deafness" works well around the house. My wife is convinced that I am quite hard of hearing.

The only time I have real problems are in noisy restaurants and crowd situations. I can still hear the phone ringing when I'm outside, I heard the mourning doves quite clearly early this morning from inside the house.

I am however learning to lip read as a back up.

The ringing in my ears I can handle, it's the voices in my head that I need to get rid of!

It's always a good idea to wear protection, regardless of what your screwing around with.

  11. That's when it started for me, on a 175 MM self-propelled howitzer in 1973-74, as a radio/telephone operator with no earplugs. I can't understand what anyone says to me if there is background noise!

I brought it back up because of the ads that keep popping up on TV and the radio about this problem and the products they are pushing like 'Quietus'. Was wondering if anyone has tried it.
Last year I went to an open house at a shop that someone here made available. It was raining and there was a young band playing inside the small shop. It was very loud - seems like the ringing got worse from the music. As in the original post - young guns take heed! Protect your hearing!

  13. yup my parents warned me... did I listen.. no. now my hearing SUCKS!

  14. Mine always told me that it was the loud music, possibly to a point but the fireworks, pipe bombs and loud cars got the best of mine. I now have ear plugs in every tool box around the house and garage. I did go to a few concerts and wore Hearos, ear plugs made for concert listening. All the bad stuff was filtered out and the music sounded good.

I was a drummer for years, playing large live shows with giant monitors (speakers) blasting right at me so I could hear the rest of the band over the sound of the drums! My ears ring like crazy. I've always just figured I need to ignore it. Didn't know there was a name for it. At night it is so loud that it sounds like my sprinklers are on right outside my window. I've even got up to check quite a few times.

It's gone away a little since I got married. Ringing has been replaced with nagging. I wish I had the ringing back..... :D

At 63 years of age, I've been a tinnitus sufferer for many years. I belonged to the American Tinnitus Assn. for some time & I can tell you that there is a lot of research going on. However, there is no real across the board cure. There are remedies & therapies that help some people, but not all. One thing I can tell you is that it can always get worse. Wear a good set of ear-muffs when operating any machinery..wear earplugs when ear-muffs are not convenient (like concerts). Another thing that I can tell you is that the mind cannot fully concentrate on more than one thing at a time. So, go out in the garage, put on your ear-muffs & work on your project(s). You'll find that you'll forget about the ringing, even though it is raging.

my ears ring all the time, have for years, 3 nights a week in a bar, have allways worked around cars and machinery, 10 years in truck pulling, the last factory i worked at they had steros blasting so loud you had to yell at the person next to you, all ear plugs did was make the sound of the music seem even louder by blocking out the back ground sound made by the machinery, i work for myself now, seem as i type this messge the ringging just got a little louder..lol

Wish I could tell y'all "I hear ya man" but I can't! Just turned 60 and the ringing is bad along with the hearing loss. The VA tells me that working on the flight line on a fighter base and then the B-52 base didn't have any effect on my hearing. Still fighting that battle. Favorite word is now "HUH" People tell me I need a hearing aid (or two) and I tell them to speak louder, it's cheaper! LOL Dennis

My father lost much of his hearing in one ear from shooting guns (skeet, not people)...but I thought it wouldn't happen to me, so stood over fuel motors tuning the barrel valve with no ear protection, stood next to other guys tuning barrel valves (so I might get it right!) but I never realized the damage until I got a chance to fly a B-52 and failed the hearing test part of the flight physical...don't have ringing but lost over 30% of my hearing...doctor said "it will never come back." Lesson for today, wear ear protection!!!

oh don't listen to that hearing test on earphones, my speakers are lousy, so i used my earphones, and it fried them, no bass response left, they sound tinny now. 20 dollar set of earphones, only ones that fit under my earmuffs i could find.

I try wearing plugs when I know I'll be making a lot of noise. Spent all last night in the garage cutting and grinding, half with the electric grinder and the rest with the compressor running and the 90* air grinder going. By the time I went in, my ears were numb. I've got pretty damn good hearing now, would be a shame to kill it. I knew it was stupid, just didn't plan on being in the garage that long but one thing led to another....tonight I'll have the ear plugs in.

If I could go back and redo just 1 thing, it would be the use of ear protection! The constant high pitched noise in my ears is enough to make me loose it at times. Night time is the worst, trying to fall asleep. They tell me at this time there is not much that can be done for it.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE TINNITUS NOW, AND YOU ARE NOT USING EAR PROTECTION YOU PROBABLY WILL!

it's something to do with the constant tone, i didn't think it would do that either.
