I have a direct line to THE MAN with children's heart conditions ...... I WILL talk to him AT LENGTH for your little baby ..... I had a daughter born with HALF a heart, BACKWARDS ( transposition of the great vessel), and on the wrong side with transposition of the great arteries ..... the doctors said "two weeks" at best ..there was NO operation for the condition at the time ... She was blue laying in her oxygen tent.... I took my Scapular (Catholics will know what that is) and placed it around her neck ....... We WATCHED her color change for the better in MINUTES..... In hours the doctors came to us and said there was some kind of "shunt" that babies have between the arteries ( IF I remember correctly)but it CLOSES after being born.... hers stayed OPEN allowing her to LIVE..... the diagnosis changed to "let's see what happens" .... a few weeks in the hospital and she came home ..... MANY YEARS of doctors, fighting simple colds, etc, etc..... on her TWENTY-FIRST birthday she had open heart surgery to improve blood flow (VERY risky and the SECOND one performed in the world....) Scapular under her as she went in ..... 11 hours later we went to "step-down" and could see from 30 feet away our baby girl was PINK for the first time in her life ( she couldn't WAIT until she would be old enough to use LIPSTICK as her lips and fingernails remained BLUE) .......... MORE prayers ...... and she is now THIRTY-SIX years old and a mother married to a NJ State Trooper ( who is the COOLEST guy in the world himself--and my FRIEND !!) ....... ONLY GOD brought my child to the point where man could finally help her ...and he brought her thru THAT too... I'm NOT a religious nut by any means ...... but I PERSONALLY have felt the hand of God........ and I know his love for his children..... I'll ask he touches YOUR child in the same fashion as he did mine............... fear not .. as someone has said already ......HE HAS CURED already...HE's waiting to see your faith .................

    ....... jeresy Skip

  2. I prayed for your little one. My cousin had open heart surgery (hole in heart) in the 70's), she's around 38 now. Medical technology is something that God has given us.

All the best to you and yyour family. I had the same op in june and recovered fine, and I'm 100 % sure kid will do too.

  4. My niece had a similar problem at birth. She just finished graduate school in Boston and is the best and brightest kid you would ever ask for. Prayers for her and you, just hang in there, and everything will be all right for her. Keep us updated.

  5. prayers sent...the power of prayer is an amazing thing...my little girl, Gianna, suffered a terrible rattlesnake bite last year at the age of 25 months...it took 28 vials of anti-venom...prayers and well wishes from all of the country and throughout hambland have cured her and given her, I believe, superhuman powers as she is now running our household...keep us posted and we hope and pray for nothing but the best for you and yours

thanks to all you - some of these responses have made me cry - you are all too much - thanks so much.

The good news is that the surgery seemed to work - there are 3 leaflets that make up part of the valve and 1 of these was completely gone (they did not realize this completely til they opened her up)

they rebuilt the 1/3 that needed to get repaired and now she has no backflow into her heart at all - that is today - they said this could change over time and in fact will get worse over the next 6-10 years - but we will deal with that hurdle when it comes on up.

So right now - they have rebuilt part of her valve using part of her own heart......and they have "scraped" out some scar tissue so that the aortic arch now has full blood flow without any obstructions.

Had we not had this done she would ahve got worse and worse and eventually died.

SO overall we are overjoyed with the results and look forward to recovery - that is always a series of obstacles as well so we hope that you will continue to give us your thoughts and prayers and I will try my best to keep you updated.

Not sure about Louisville KY - I want to go and we need the $$$ but we may not be able to get there in time.....if I make it - I will try to let everyone know - if I am not there - you gotta know I have a good excuse!

Thanks to everyone and talk to ya soon

    Best of luck to you.

When I was 2, I was sick all the time, and the local doctor that my parents went to couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. My dad was sick as well and stayed home with me and my sisters/brother. We were playing, and we had one of those old Fisher Price doctor's kits. My dad was listening to everyone's heartbeat with the stethescope (they actually worked back then, not anymore since kids would scream into the end of them) and my dad realized my heart sounded different than everyone elses. Bump whoosh instead of bump-bump.

Turns out I had two holes in my heart and I had to have open heart surgery when I was three. Still doing fine today without any side effects from it 24 years later.

Funny thing is, my parents told me this story only a couple years ago, all that time I had no idea my dad found my heart holes with a Fisher Price toy.

another crazy day at the cardiac intensive care unit!
who knew this day would have so much GOOD news!!!
about 130 am Hannah almost rolled outta bed - pretty creepy - I was awakened to hear all these beeps and alarms going off - I look up and the nurse was right there - looks at me and says: We Got a Flipper!................
ha - ok...........guess she was not sedated enough and decided to roll over and in the process almost dislodged her breathing tube - had that happened we would have had some major drama.

The rest of the night was peaceful and I was able to sleep about 3 hours until the X ray tech came to wake her up and get some images of her lungs........then the docs come in and poke and prod on her - but they were all really impressed with her bounce back - we are looking at less than 24 hours after major open heart surgery and this kid is doing amazing..........

the morning rolls along and they say - you know - let's remove the breathing tube -
she did and it went great.

We thought that would be it for the day - but instead they cut off her morphine as well...............

    that was about noon.

Then about 4 they said we should go ahead and take off the breathing mask as well - so she looks great - her color is good and overall she looks like herself.

Of course she has a chest tube to get rid of the excess blood and the neck and leg plugs...............but other than that - she is great.

So Madison and I are getting ready to go back to the hotel and they say -
we are ready to take out the Chest tube!

    wow

Kim helped out and I looked in another direction...........

so we get back to the hotel and Kim calls and says that they have removed the arterial line -

this is just moving along at an unbelievable pace.

At this rate she will be outta the hospital in less than a week!
    Crazy

    so
the thoughts and prayers you have all been sending the girl have been helping out immensely - we appreciate it so much

Thank you and who knows - tomorrow she may no longer be in CICU
    incredible huh?

OK - thanks to everyone and we will update ya tomorrow

    Later

  19. Late to this post, Im glad she is doing well. I have a niece also named Hannah, she is 10 now. She had this same problem when she was born. She went though the same surgery. Man you cant keep this kiddo down now. She loves riding horses, and more recently small motorcycles. Never would have known she had the heart problems when she was born. She calls the scar on her chest the spot where the angles kissed her.

Man I know how you feel right about now like the weight of the world has been lifted off your shoulders, Great great news and more to come I'm sure. There is nothing more important in this world then a child especially a special little one like yours. Can't wait for the day when you tell us she's going home. Just look back at this time some day in the future when she's a teenager and is driving you crazy and it is guaranteed to make you smile.
