Hey all new to the board and already did my introduction. Like I said their I’m new to the world of rods and really don’t know a whole bunch. I found this kit on eBay which is a weld your own 23 T Bucket frame. Just wondering if I could get some inside from folks to know if this is worth the money or if this is possibly a scam. Thanks for any info

Looks to be cheaper than Speedway's kit. Is a T bucket what you want?

Thank you for the reply. Well really I’m not 100% sure but to be honest I’m just looking for the learning experience and trying to get into this hobby about as affordable as I can.

  5. It's a device that catches mice......;-) He was referring to the old saying " Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door."

Are you looking to build a car from the ground up? Or would a running project be more interesting? It's a rewarding experience to actually drive the car you're working on. What is your time frame like? Do you have a shop?

Thank you for that new piece of lingo to add to my vocabulary arsenal good sir! Funny how you mention mousetraps as I just had to take care of two of them lil critters out in my garage I’ll see if I can find the video what a sight for the eyes! One of them managed to sandwich himself between two of the glue traps I put down

To be totally honestly I have learned so much about cars my whole life and have a had a major passion for them. But I’ve never really got down and dirty into the hands on portion. Figure why not start while I’m young and get my hands dirty to attempt to build this thing all myself(well with some help with folks I know of whom are experienced). The reward itself to me is the looking at something that I built myself. I’m in no big hurry to get this thing done but getting it at least rolling on wheels by May of next year would be nice. Currently all I have is a 1 car garage to work with till eventually I purchase this prefab two car garage I really like

Nice to put a name with the product for sale! Have you had any experience with this guys work personally? Or perhaps someone you may know that has?

  12. Ron Pope is a reputable builder, nobody to make fun of, he even makes axles for one of the HAMB alliance members.
He took over for MAS when it went under.

That gives me good assurance to potentially buy this frame. When a reputation is in good standard it builds my confidence to buy something.

  14. I added a link, he can custom make to whatever you want or provide you with a welded frame if you are unsure of your welding ability.
He made the gas tank in my Henry J absolutely to my measurements about 7 yrs ago and also made some custom disc brake brackets for a project of mine.

Thanks for that link I’m gonna do some more research before I take the leap. I’ve never welded before so I’m very very leary about my welding skills at this point

You also need to take into account how you are going to register the newly constructed vehicle.

If you find a frame with a title, your registration will go a lot more smoothly.

CousinWilly, Welcome to the HAMB, sounds like you will fit in here just fine. Not to take this post sideways but here is a mouse trap that didn't make it, think of the time it took to assemble it. DSCF9901.JPG Bob

  19. OK, where are you even from, Lithuania? Seriously you state that you don't weld and are young and don't know too much. Buy something that just needs a little work but already assembled. This route allows you to enjoy and learn basic maintenance. If you attempt to build one from the ground up you will spend your money, loose interest and sell it at a loss. After a frame you still need; axles, wheels, tires, brakes, suspension, steering, and you still don't have a body or be able to move under it's own power. Let alone trying to register it in whatever country you are from.

Do lots of homework before you attempt a build from scratch.....especially a T bucket build. It's very hard to get a T bucket to look really good.....and very easy to end up with one that is slightly off in many different areas. They look like a very simple car, but far from simple to build. What it boils down to is the guy is selling you some steel tubing for about twice what you could by it up town but he's including the cutting and shipping.

Essentially it makes it easier since I don’t have access to many tools at this time.

I have people around me who have experience with things like this to guide me along in the process but don’t know a whole heck of a lot about the internet. I love to absorb and learn as much as I can before attempting to do things like such. Though I agree maybe for someone like me this is a serious undertaking but it feels like something I’m potentially interested in doing. Not saying I’m going to do it but it’s a thought that’s crossing my mind. I’m a young cat with a wife and child and a house payment so going out and buying an assembled car isn’t feasible for me. Yeah I could wait till I had more money but I go more important things to use large chunks of money for. Such as paying off my house, taking my family on vacations, and building a much needed retirement account. The point of this is spending extra money when I got it doing this project little by little.

A T bucket isn't really a good car for a wife and a small child. I would suggest you save up some of your money and buy something you, your wife, and your child (and a possible brother or sister that might show up) will be able to ride in when you get it done.

With no tools, no welding experience, and no building experience, a new T bucket will be a costly and a very slow start. The money your going to have invested in getting a welded frame built into the rolling chassis will buy a solid 4 door cruiser that you can drive while you work on it.

You really will want to see what will be involved in getting an all new fabricated car titled in Ohio, before you send off your money for that frame kit. Gene

  28. Okay, so I'm on the other end of the scale. I'm over 70 and have been doing this all my life. Even made a pretty good living at it. Don't take what I'm going to say as a knock or insult. I've seen a rough start many times and it sounds like your singing that Tune. You have the want to. You have some interest, but you have No foundation. That takes time. Your not ready to scratch build anything. It takes a place to work, it takes Tools, ya gotta know how to weld. Not everything just bolts together. When building from scratch you need a Truck and Trailer. There are some Basics you can't ignore. The other thing is Friends and Guidance. If I were a Young Guy today I'd be just as lost as you sound. Where were you when the Bug first Bit ya? Go back there, feel it out and make a new Friend. Be the Car Guy's buddy. Go to some Club meetings. Talk to everyone you can find that has an Old Car siting in the driveway. It isn't like it used to be, I get that. Go to Cruze In's and talk to guys, walk right up and ask them about there car. We all want to share in this "Thing" what ever it is. Don't start out over your head and disappoint yourself, you may not recover and that would be terrible! Also know that this is Fun for sure and Fun costs $$$$$. How much Fun can you afford? Don't over step your Wallet. I understand the want to build but starting with a Vehicle not parts has it's advantages.
Just think about what you just read and don't be insulted, let it sink in.

  29. Ha. Better mouse trap was a reference to a better frame available, IN YOUR HOME STATE. @31Vicky with a hemi is the name of a builder from Cleveland, named Steve. HAMB'r of high regard, that will shoot you straight, no bullshit. He has two badass fabricated Model T frames built for you to look at. Hopefully, he'll see this thread. Cheers.
