Hot Rods opinions needed for a possible trade.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fordf1trucknut, May 27, 2015.

  1. That 57 is my dream car. Change out the wheels and tires (chrome reverse and baldies or spiders), a bit of a rake, twice pipes and loose the rear bumper and replace it with one from a Custom. I always hated the big, Fairlane bumper

Trucks are a dime a dozen. I'd take the Fairlane.

I was just going by the nada cl***ic car guide, watching ebay, and from experience....been trying to sell his car for a good while without even a single tire kicker....sold rougher f1s recently for more money in less time.

Im a truck guy but I'd offer him $1500 and bring $2000 so you can bring the car home. The car can do truck duty, just needs a trailer hitch.

Not that you need anymore nudging, but damn man, get down there and do that deal now! And don't be embarr***ed to ante up the 2K is that's what it takes. A wheel/tire/stance adjustment and that Fairlane goes from really cool car to totally *****in' !

Will $2000 get the F1 painted, upholstered and running? I doubt it. The 57 is painted upholstered and running driving. I would offer the F1 and $1000 and see what happens. Then find the sweet spot somewhere in-between.

  11. I would be all into the Fairlane and be getting rid of the truck in a New York minute.
Why doesn't a Fairlane 500 like that come my way?

I wouldn't try to decide whether or not to trade according to what you guesstimate they will be worth, I would do like most have said. Do you want a car or truck, remember you still have a bunch of work left to do to get the truck done.

I'd be all over that trade. Running, finished cars always win out over projects in my book, and that '57 is a honey.

  20. Man, there will be something definitely wrong with you if you don't take on board just about 100% of the replies, you have two trucks already and one nice '56 car, so please to the deal and add the '57 to your garage space... I would give both testicles plus the neighbours to be in your situation thanks.

I agree with Squablow-you'll rarely make back your new parts, etc investment when you sell a project vehicle. With a handle of f1truck nut, we're not going to talk you into the trade unless you really want the car.

I'd take the trade and be driving that 57 to work next Monday with a set of Torque Thrusts and the front end dropped a couple of inches. Either go that route or drop it on WWW's with Lancer's and a tube grille for a mild custom look. The car looks too stock/plain and needs to get on with the party.

Agreed. I have a '49 F1 but would be all over that Fairlane. I'd make it a NASCAR-clone with a wicked *** cam in the Y block.

If the body is as good as it looks, and he can't sell it for pretty good money, there's something wrong with the world. I'd rather have that than that other 57 brand.

I agree with most other folks... That looks like a very nice DONE '57. If I had three of the same thing, and someone offered me a '57 Ford for an unfinished project that I'd have to dump another $8k+ into to finish, and I had $2k in my pocket, that someone would have my money in a jiffy.

So, how does this end? You said you wanted opinions for possible trade. Are you gojng to follow the vast majorities opinjons or were you just hoping people would agree with what you want to do so it would make you feel better about your decision? My thinking on this is if you are weighing perceived value of the F1 by the cost of parts you have to evaluate the 57 with the same measure.

  27. The truck is only worth value in parts of you part it out. As a truck it is worth what an F1 is worth as a project and I see them fairly cheap all the time (fairly cheap being a relative term here).

If you are going to compare value by the value of the parts you have for your project you have to do the same for the five seven only compare fair condition to excellent as all of his parts are finished and yours are not.

All that said in the end it comes down to if you want the car or not. I think that the value is there and like I said in the beginning offer him a little less cash but it is not there unless you like and want the car he already has let you know that he wants the truck.

here is something that I have learned about a trade, the one who speaks first is nearly always at a disadvantage. The second speaker can always him and haw around but the first speaker has already put his cards on the table. you got an ace on the hole on this one, just make sure you are not holding 8s and the ace is the ace of hearts. ;)

That Fairlane is the sedan, not a hardtop. I love the fairlane 500 hardtops and the 300 sedans but the fairlane sedan? Not so much..
I wouldn't do the trade simply because that car isn't what I want and your F-1 could be made into exactly what I want. Also, even with the new sheet metal, I'd still bet there's some structural rust in that 57 if you look hard enough. You know every square inch of your F-1 and I'll bet there's absolutely no rust in it now.
I'd hang onto my 2 thousand dollars, my F-1s and be happy I have a kick-*** 56 Fairlane already...
Hope he gets his 13 grand and he may but not from me.
