Wow... A thread from before I even knew you guys... Asking for OPINIONS... About TROPHIES... And it's only one short page long. I'll betcha we can fix that. LOL My opinion: No trophies! If some don't attend because there are no trophies, fine... more room for those who don't care about trophies. I believe it should be about the love of the cars and the interest in the people who build and own and drive them. I'd like to see shows where every participant drives their car onto the stage to be interviewed by an MC. And the whole audience can sit and watch and listen. Maybe even a cameraman casting images onto giant monitors, maybe a few close-up detail shots, etc. A little banter, a couple jokes, and everybody gets to know the person and the car. The "stage" could be a safely cordoned-off area, and as each participant leaves, they could do a short burnout if desired. Kind of how they do it at the fancy shows for rich people... just a little more fun.
"Go to the junkyard, buy old camshafts and other mechanicals, paint them gold and silver and wire tie on tags for first and second place" we have a junk parade here and that is basicly what they do for that. Otherwise for me that is the fastest way to get me out of the show. Right before or as they have the get together to hand out the trophies, that is my cue to leave the shows. I don't need more dust collectors that take up room that a car part could occupy even if I never use it. My dad is just the opposite when he was alive. He was all for that plastic trophy, I could never understand it. Same thing as getting that monthly plaque at work all the time for being their best third shift worker. Walk out of the room and into the nearest garbage can it goes.
