The "early" pintos didn't have 2.3 engines. They were a whole different engine family I believe.......maybe a 1.6?

My dad's t-bucket has one in it.

  3. I think the 2300 was Canadian built and the 1600 was of German manufacture.....

Terry already posted a picture of my 27, but I'll put one in of the intake I'm gonna run...

As for cams, I'm using a Crower custom grind with solid lifters. It was recommended to me by a guy who used them for ministock racing. He said Crower was the way to go. Everybody makes cams for these though.

Racer Walsh, Esslinger and Race Tech are good place to get parts. Watch out though, they sell alot of stuff that's made to be run all day at 6000rpm, so that wouldn't work so well with us. I've bought a few things from Racer Walsh and will buy more as needed.

Somebody mentioned turboford.org already. I'm a member there and have had a few questions answered. They're mostly turbo guys, but they help the "NA" (normally asperated) guys too.

Also check out 4m.net. Its a circle track site, but they have parts and good info for 2.3's and other good 4 bangers too. I haven't posted there yet.

The 2.3 in my car should run hard when I get all the bugs worked out. Hopefully that will happen this weekend. Then, I think the last bug will be the 3.0 geared 8" I'm running. I just don't have the converter or the low-end torque to get me going. (or I've screwed something else up!!)

Feel free to contact me if you're looking for something or want to know more of what I've learned the hard way.

    Hey Bib,

Isn't that new one Richard's? The pic is at his house in Krum, and I think the motor came out of the C-cab.. Haven't seen Gary in a couple of years, but his little pickup is still a beaut. As to the Pinto Kwee-chun from the originator, good idea with fuel costs.

i saw one of these in a closed-hood model a one time turbo'd to all hell. i thought it was pretty sweet. in a bucket, id have to see, but i say stab it in there and toss it later if you dont like it.

  10. Ford did make a 2.3 turbo motor they used in Mustang SVOs, Turbo T Birds and some Cougars BUT the block was cast in Brazil of a higher nickel content steel and was much better suited to a high boost set-up. I don't know too much about parts interchangability with the regular 2.3s. These turbo motors can easily make 300 HP using stock parts and stock computers and much more with a better head and mods. Lots of good info available about these as well. Not exactly traditional, but if you're running hood sides, a nice sleeper set up perhaps....

Essinger is a source for the turbo motor spped parts and such.

if you want info on the 2.3 turbo, check out hotrod magazines website, they have done a bunch of things on the motor and on builders/parts suppliers.
