I own a auto repair store and sell Interstate batterys also get the Optima from them. Have had alot of problems from the optimas as of late. Early ones held up well but in the last 5 years or so I think I have had to replace all of them at one time or another... I would look at the Odyssey line of batteries

  3. i run optima. i currently 5 in use and 1 on the shelf. no problems. i have one that sits in a pickup that gets used closer to never. but when i go to it; it fires right up.the oldest one is 10-12 years. the newest is 6 months. no other way to go.

I have a 454 high compression engine in my 48 Linc. Cont. Red Top is the only battery that will turn the thing over if it get hot. Optima would not even do it. It sits for periods of time but I have had no problems with it.

I have used Interstate battery's for a long time in my cars and boats and they always served me very well . Can't say anything bad about them at all !
Now as for Optima battery's , just do a search and you will find more informations about the problems they have had ! I can get a good Interstate battery at my local Tractor Supply for about $60 to $70 and that's a 60 month battery ! That's hard to beat no matter where you live .
My next door neighbor had a race car and bought a red top and didn't last him a year ! He had nothing but problems with it and always disconnected the battery when not in use !
    Just a thought .

I completely agree and their corporate customer services sucks as well

I think I might give the Kirkland brand a try next time I need a battery as I'm usually quite pleased with the other Kirkland products I've purchased. Thanks for the heads up.

had a red top, died before free replacement period ran out.no local dealers, they all dropped optima.
while working in a small shop, the batteries most commonly replaced in the order of most ofte to least
    AC/DELCO
    Parts Master
    Energizer
    Mopar
    Ford/Motorcraft
    Deka/Power Surge
    Interstate
these were all the batteries availabe locally ,interstate makes a pretty solid battery, after having a two year old one sit under my bench for two years, passed it on to a friend that ran that 450 cca in his 88 chevy picup for almost 5 years.thats nine years before it finally croaked.

I've have a red top Optima in my Comet for 3 1/2 years with zero problems. I dont drive the car all that much and it never fails to crank long and hard to get the car going after a few weeks of inactivity.
